For this close analysis essay, you may choose one or two poems by one author and provide an analysis. Poems must come from The Poetry Foundation ( http://www.poetryfoundation.org/browse/) or The Academy of American Poets (http://www.poets.org/page.php/prmID/59). Other websites cannot be used to find poems. Terms that you might consider when analyzing poetry include subject matter, line breaks, point of view, voice, imagery, form (sonnet, villanelle, sestina), rhythm, rhyme scheme, figurative language (simile, metaphor, alliteration, assonance, consonance, refrain), confessionalism, and the historical connections.
It should include two to four outside sources. At least one source must come from the TCC online article database. (If you can get on it, if not use whatever other source) Literary Criticism is the section you should browse. The essay should have a clear thesis statement which previews the structure of the paper. Use lines from critics and from the poems to back up your assertions. The essay should be 1,200-1,700 words in length. Format the paper and cite all sources according to MLA format.
