RUBRIC FOR REFLECTION ESSAY

700-1000 words reflection on your learning experience in this course.
15% of your final grade.
If you don’t normally submit work online, leave yourself time to deal with this process.

Please use MLA format for your essays.
Include a Works Cited page if referencing.

The reflections in your essay should demonstrate an awareness and analysis of your learning and thinking process. It is an attempt to use the vocabulary we have been developing together this term. The demonstration of reflection and thoughtful content are required for this paper. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are important to clearly communicate your ideas and will count towards your grade.

General Guidelines for University Essays
-Double-space the text of your paper, and use a legible 11 or 12-point font.
-Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks (unless otherwise instructed)
-Set the margins of your document to 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
-Use a Work(s) Cited page for any external research.
-Do not make a title page for your paper.
-In the upper left-hand corner of the first page, list your name, instructor’s name, course, date.
-Do not underline, italicize, or place title in quotation marks; write the title
in Title Case (standard capitalization), not all capital letters. Double space between the title and the first line of the text.
-Create a header in the upper right-hand corner that includes your last name, followed by a space with a page number; number all pages consecutively with Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin.

Content

• 1st Para: Introduction outlines the purpose of the paper and positions the author. Author provides a brief history of movement experience in class. Reflect on the specific Genre that you are practicing in the lab.

• 2nd Para: Genres that you experienced with the guest and video viewing. Body of the paper refers to specific examples from author’s dance practice in the studio(Yoga, movement exercises, final presentation). Description, analysis, comparison, reflection off learning or problem-solving strategies.

3rd Para: Your own reflections based on this 12-week learning process. Main points/thoughts are to be critically and logically developed. Conclusion summarizes the main points of the paper.

• Scholarly research is not necessary for this paper, however if the author utilizes a source, he or she will provide in-text citations and a Works Cited page in MLA style

Structure & Formatting
• Every paragraph relates to the topic of the paper
• Paragraph order is appropriate and flows well

Writing
• Grammar, spelling and punctuation are generally correct
• Writing is clear and easy to understand
• Variety of vocabulary used appropriately
• Tone is appropriate for an academic paper (note: this paper can be written in first person and this format actually best serves this type of paper)
