Mitosis and meiosis are important biological processes that are commonly confused. Write a one-two page essay that compares these two processes. Your answer should also include a description of the role each process plays in the life of an organism, and should specifically address how ploidy is affected in each process. Additionally, terms you may wish to incorporate (but are not limited to) in your essay include independent assortment and crossing over.

Your essay must be typed, 1.5 spaced, in 12-point font. Please follow the guidelines for writing an argument paper. You can find these by searching for “argument paper” in Writer’s Help 2.0.

You will need to use properly cited references. Wikipedia and other tertiary sources are not acceptable sources. You may use properly cited secondary sources (e.g., textbooks). Quotations are not used in scientific writing; you must paraphrase and cite the sources you are paraphrasing from. You will lose points for using quotations. Reference lists and in-text citations must follow CSE (Council of Science Editors) guidelines.
