Your assignment is to write an argument of not less than 750 words which proposes a solution to a problem.

The essay should contain the following:

1. an adequate description of the problem (in the introduction)
2. your claim (the proposed solution, also in the introduction)
3. reasons why the proposed solution will solve the problem
4. a detailed implementation plan (what steps need to be taken in order to put the plan into place) and why the plan is feasible (practical, able to be accomplished)

Additionally, your essay may contain a comparison to other possible solutions, with an explanation as to why your proposal is a better idea.

The best suggestion I can make regarding your choice of topic is to deal with a manageable, solvable problem. Don’t try to solve world hunger or change people’s behavior. It’s usually not possible. Often, the best essays are responses to a problem in the student’s workplace, school, or community. Also, please keep in mind that you are arguing for the best solution, not the only one. Remember that many solutions may consist of more than one part or step.
