Based on your reading of the first chapters of Argonauts of the Western Pacific, what constitutes an “appropriate” fieldsite in Malinowski’s eyes, and what is the proper amount of distance an anthropologist should have from the people amongst whom s/he is working? How have these ideas been challenged since Malinowski’s time? Please draw on two of our required course readings (in addition to Argonauts of the Western Pacific) in your response.

An introduction that is concise and engaging, and that serves to draw the reader in. The introduction should present a clear thesis statement or argument. Please note that restating the prompt does NOT constitute a thesis statement!
A well developed discussion (in the body of the essay) that addresses each of the prompt’s key questions, and that draws on Argonauts of the Western Pacific + two other course readings.
A coherently organized structure and flow. In addition, essays should be rigorously proofread and shouldn’t contain any typos or mistakes.
A total word count (between 1400-1700 words) that is clearly marked at the top of the first page.
In-text citations and a bibliography presented in proper AAA format.
