Why do you want to study your chosen major at Georgia Tech, and how do you think Georgia Tech will prepare you to pursue opportunities in that field after graduation? (250 words)
After interviewing family and friends for college search, I established three personal learning priorities for business schools that offer an undergraduate degree in accounting ; (1) Increase global perspective, (2) Embrace digitalization (3) Walk the talk. Based on my research, Scheller came on top from the selected pool.
The opportunity to learn and develop a global business perspective is incredibly important to me after having lived in three countries and personally witnessing the impact of globalization in local settings. I am confident that Scheller puts high a priority on developing global business leaders, evidenced by the recognition as the leader in education diversity and international opportunities afforded through AIESEC and International Plan.
I discovered that what made business and fiscal savvy business leaders succeed in the past will not necessarily make them successful in the era of digitalization , AI and automation. I am looking forward to developing digital savviness in accounting practices through electives such as Seminar in Advanced Accounting and Special Problems. The prospect of pursuing Interdisciplinary Master courses is also very appealing to me.
I aspire to be a global accounting and financial leader who walks the talk. With this in mind, I examined whether business schools practiced what they preached. I was encouraged to discover that Scheller has developed a long-term strategic plan with clear vision and mission, and specific goals that are measurable. This sounds a good ‘corporation’ to join where leaders (faculty) are accountable and employees (students) contribute to the goals.

Tech’s motto is Progress and Service. We find that students who ultimately have a broad impact first had a significant one at home. What is your role in your immediate or extended family? And how have you seen evidence of your impact on them?
At the age of five, my brother was declared a slow developer by my parents. In desperation, they brought in an army of after-school tutors to help him. The family meal changed to a special diet to accelerate his brain growth. My youngest sibling came into this world to help him to develop competitiveness (or combativeness).
My family fear subsided as my brother progressed normally through elementary school. During my middle school year, I was drawn to the special needs students at our school who were unkindly labeled by some classmates. This evoked memory of my brother.
My curiosity led me to volunteer at a music therapy center for special needs children. The well-meaning parents eagerly observed their children daily for signs of new responses to creative musical stimuli. I focused on affirming the children for who they are rather than relying on my piano talent to stimulate a response . My experience with my brother taught me to celebrate who he is rather than change his environment for the desired result.
Through my involvement in special needs children, my parents came to a more profound understanding of my brother’s childhood pains caused by their actions. My two siblings are now parented in a drastically different way. They are free to develop at their respective pace with little interference from external forces. My two siblings will mature as fine young men because the parents affirm them as they are. I am grateful I was heard through my action.
