Assignment 1: Read and complete the Critical Reading Journals for How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster.
The journal format will be given with your summer work packet. You MAY NOT type this assignment. You can copy and print the templates to glue / tape into your notebook* OR you can draw out the chart. You should have a page for each chapter title (do not worry about the Introduction, the interludes, or the postludes). You will be able to use your journals on the test that you will take the first day of class (August 27, 2018), so the more specific your answers are, the better you will do on the test. ( Test Grade)
* you may use your “Dictionary” notebook from AP 11. Just create a new section.
Assignment 2: Read Beloved and complete the Comparison Analysis Chart. After you read How to Read Literature Like a Professor, read Beloved by Toni Morrison. Complete the
comparison chart, (in the same notebook as Assignment #1) showing your depth of understanding from How to Read Literature Like a Professor in regards to analyzing a novel. ( Quiz Grade)
Assignment 3: Complete a Major Works Data Sheet for one of the books listed below.
To find success in AP English Literature and Composition, you must know various literary works. As your last assignment for summer work, complete a Major Works Data Sheet for one of the books listed below (these books are frequently cited on the AP test and ones that we will not read in class). You may complete the data sheet on a book you have read before. You will write a Question 3 essay on this book during the first week of class, and you may use your data sheet to complete this essay. ( Test Grade)
