Requirements:

Note: You do not need to have your media text for the final textual analysis paper decided on before doing this. However, I will be strongly encouraging you to choose a media text for the textual analysis paper that aligns with your topic for this assignment so that you can use the articles and research. So, you might want to give some thought to what you would want to do for the textual analysis assignment before deciding on this.

Choose a medium/format (Television, Music, Film, Video Games, Advertising).

Choose an issue (Such as gender, race, sexuality, politics, age, religion, love, relationships, violence, ethnicity, normalcy and deviance, socioeconomic class, nationality, etc.)

Find Five academic sources (journal, book chapter, book) that are about your issue in your chosen medium/format (for example, race in television or love in film).
A total of 5 pages- 1 page per source

Write a one-page (double-spaced) analysis of each source. The summary should:You will be graded on the quality/relevance of your source selection, your ability to identify and summarize the main argument of each source, and your ability to make connections between the sources.

Include a full APA citation for the source
Identify and summarize the overall argument of the piece.
Make connections/comparisons/contrasts between the source and your other sources in order to put them in conversation with each other.

Grading Breakdown:
20 Points – Quality of Sources
40 Points – Summary of Argument
20 Points – Making connections between sources
10 Points – Formatting, Organization, Style
10 Points – Arriving to Library Workshop with one source printed out.
