Analytical Research Paper

Structure:
Introduction (1 paragraph) -Introduces the topic and signals the main points; states the argument.

Background (1-2 paragraphs) – Gives a brief overview / explanation of the topic, and introduces various perspectives on it, if applicable.

Main Points (2-3 paragraphs) – Each paragraph develops one main point that is clearly stated in the topic sentence and that directly supports the thesis.

Complications & Recommendations (1 paragraph) – Provides recommendations for how to address the problem / implement the new technology / prepare for future developments, etc., OR acknowledges complications or alternative points of view.

Conclusion (1 paragraph) – Brings all of the main ideas of the paper together, reiterates the central argument, and leaves the reader with an understanding of the larger implications.
