Film – Analyse in detail and compare representations of femininity and motherhood in Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979) and Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller, 2015).

Long Essay:
Write an essay of 4000 words in response to the following questions: Analyse in detail and compare representations of femininity and motherhood in Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979) and Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller, 2015).

Essays must be formatted in ways you are already familiar with: clear, consistent formatting of film/TV titles, referencing, Bibliography, Filmography, etc. Neatness and readability of presentation, writing and grammar are a priority. Single-spaced essays are NOT acceptable.

Quotations must appear in quotation marks. Failure to fully attribute sources is plagiarism and may result in a mark of zero for your written work. Give sufficient context to understand the quotation. If you quote or refer to other writers in reviews, articles or books (including references to their ideas – whether quoting or not), make this clear with reference notes, produced in the correct manner, including the author’s surname, year of publication, and page numbers where available. We prefer footnotes rather than endnotes.
Include a bibliography with each text fully referenced, including internet sites consulted. Order the texts alphabetically by author’s surname. Give title, year of publication and publisher. Also give a filmography with the names of films which you mention. Your work should be double spaced. Number the pages. Leave margins and space your paragraphs. You should pay special attention to grammar and spelling. Give the full title of the essay as set. Do not add to it with a subtitle. Do not make up your own title. Your essay will be assessed on your ability to answer the question clearly and in some detail (taking into account the word limit). It must show evidence of reading (when relevant) and engagement with such reading, together with the ability to relate ideas and arguments introduced in class and from your sources to aspects of specific films. The essay will also be assessed on your ability to develop an argument by means of an appropriate structure, with clarity of expression and good spelling, grammar and lay-out. You must answer the question as set, but credit will be given for imaginative engagement with ideas and the films you refer to. This is not the same as personal opinion unsupported by argument or evidence. Avoid autobiography.

International Business: Global Marketing Strategies

Strategies that organizations have developed and employed in order to market their products or services in different countries or regions. What new strategies will organizations need to develop in the future to remain competitive? What apparent trends require attention so that corporations can be successful in the rapidly changing area of international business?

Content
1. The paper must address in–depth a specific issue relating to the conduct of international business.
You are expected to use and cite a minimum of 25 academic sources. That said, the absolute number of references is, in itself, not paramount; rather, it is how the references are used that is important.

Guidelines (listed in order of importance)
1. Content
o Ability to formulate a relevant and timely problem in the broad area of international business.
o Demonstrated understanding of critical issues.
o Ability to construct argument(s).
o Innovative use of material/arguments/references/knowledge.
o Demonstration of independent thought.
o Ability to undertake specific analysis.
o Use of at least 25 academic sources.
2. Structure
o Logical flow of arguments, sentences, paragraphs.
o Appropriate use of sub-headings.
3. Style and presentation
o Grammar (as indicated above, smaller problems are overlooked).
o Spelling (small mistakes are overlooked).
o References and citations (relevance, appropriateness, number).

Form And Structure
1. Write in the third person.
2. Write in the present tense.
3. Do not write an abstract or executive summary — neither is necessary.
6. Do not reference textbooks.
7. For referencing, I will accept any referencing style as long as it is consistent.

Living in the Milisecond

Our entire lives are lead by the second we live in, all our memories, fears, love and moments are experienced within that one second.

What is interesting is that most people live their lives on auto pilot, and do not acknowledge the second they live in.

The paper discusses thoughts on all of the above, as well as everything in life that contributes to the second we live in. In particular, the subconscious “weight” of the brain within this second.

It also , less importantly, discusses the idea of people living on autopilot

the first general idea is that we all have memories and future ambitions, these never go away and i believe are a fundamental part to the second we live in. But why? Why cant we live our lives fully in the moment, without considering past or future?

I believe while every memory added up are the formation of this “brain weight” that there are a few pillars in everyones life that contribute to this “second” deeper. I will discuss all of them.

Financial status/ Security
Relationships
Love/ Partner
Sense of achievement – actual achievement
Power
Academic – Knowledge based status
social status
Culture and world Knowledge
Empathy both on a conscious and subconscious level
10. Awareness and consciousness of the present
11. Fun
12. Ego
13. Hatred and Resentment

First. Discussing the second. Everyone is only actually really conscious in that milisecond. everything else turns into a memory. The memories then, combined, turn into what I call a “weight” in the brain. The weight in the brain then becomes the foundation of how the second is lived emotionally. Emotions aren’t controlable, so a person struggling with an emotional issue, will find it difficult to then live in the second.

(so why shouldn’t people just be fully invested in the millisecond. – it doesn’t work, you could do that, spend all your money and be broke but really enjoy the moments while you can. Its not only about enjoyment, its about using it to not only “enjoy the process” but eventually achieve the right and fine tuned “ weight “ that allows people to really be the best versions of themselves. The way i see it, having too much of anything on the list defeats the purpose of being fully conscious , because, for example, if you have too much power, everything else is affected, and the weight of power in the brain becomes a barrier to all the other factors, which will affect the way someone behaves within the millisecond, as power suddenly becomes the only important factor in life. Its about fine tuning and balancing, for the goal of 1. Living your best life (When I say this i mean truly, enjoying every moment in a conscious way, as well as building the foundations of all of the list, in order to have the perfect “weight’ of the mind)

for every pillar, Id like to discuss more profoundly why it contributes, with examples.

IE , Being unreasonably in love, contributes to the second but other things become less important

Corporate Governance

“The directors’ relationship with shareholders is different in kind from their relationship with the other stakeholder interests. This is not simply a technical point…to redefine the directors’ responsibilities in terms of stakeholders would mean identifying all the various stakeholder groups; and deciding the nature and extent of the directors responsibility to each. The result would be that the directors were not effectively accountable to anyone since there would be no clear yardstick for judging their performance. This is a recipe neither for good governance nor for corporate success”

(Hampel Report on Corporate Governance, 1998).

Your reading this week focuses on the background leading to calls for better corporate governance, as well as the theories that have formed the background to the development of corporate governance codes. Why does good corporate governance matter? What are the key characteristics of the five theories of the company set out in your materials? Which theory fits most closely with your understanding of what a company is? What are the different jurisdictions attempting to achieve with the various corporate governance codes? To what extent do they succeed in their objectives? Explain your answers with reference to practical examples from your own experience or observation wherever possible.
