PART ONE GEE
Gee (2003) sees certain skills in video game playing as comparable to learning skills in academic subjects. He recognizes that a video game is just a different “semiotic domain” than an academic subject like physics and that a similar approach to learning is useful in order to be “literate” in both domains. Furthermore, he sees the benefits of video games when players play actively and critically. Do you agree with Gee’s argument that active and critical learning skills can be developed by playing video games? What are some ways educators in any subject can adapt their lessons to use Gee’s five learning principles in order to promote active and critical learning in the classroom?

How can we understand what it means to be a “specialist” in terms of understanding an alternative language according to Gee (2003)? Please incorporate this into your example.

For this assignment, you will compose a 4-page essay in which you will review one of two theories of development as it relates to your life experience.

Discuss Erikson’s theory of development, by relating the first four stages of psychosocial development to your life, OR
Discuss Kohlberg’s stages of moral reasoning, by explaining in what stage of moral development you believe yourself to be. Give ONE example that demonstrates your current level of moral reasoning.
After you have written your introduction and described your chosen theory of development, you will write a reflective paper exploring aspects of your own identity formation during adolescence. You are free to discuss whatever issues you feel are important, and to include personal experiences at your discretion. Your papers will be strictly confidential, and you are not required to reveal any sensitive information about yourself.

In your essay, respond to the the following questions in one-to-two paragraphs each:

Describe five positive and five negative characteristics you possess(ed) as an adolescent. How did you come to be aware of your positive characteristics? How and when did you become aware of your negative characteristics? How did you try (or how are you trying now) to overcome the negative aspects of your personality?
What were your concerns during early, middle and late adolescence? How did you deal with these concerns?
Think of one or more event that happened during adolescence that marked a positive turning point in your life, and that had a profound influence on your personality. For example, was there an event that caused you to feel you were at a crossroads in life, and that the decisions you needed to make would have great impact on your future? Did you cross some boundary that showed you were growing up and developing into a different, more mature person? Looking back, how do you feel about it now?
What were your relationships with friends and/or family like? How did they affect your life? How did your peer relationships change throughout adolescence?
As this is a formal essay, you are required to double-space your work, and to include a cover and reference page. The body of your paper should be 1,000 to 1,100 words, not including the cover or reference pages. This usually works out to 4-5 pages. You are asked to use 12-point, Times New Roman font, to cite a minimum of three sources — one of which should be your textbook — and to submit your work using APA-style referencing. Please refer to the video on APA formatting for essays in the aptly named discussion forum, to understand the expectations of proper essay formatting. Also refer to the APA Manual or the OWL/Purdue website to review the citation and reference-formatting rules. You are also encouraged to use the TLC (Tutoring and Learning Centre) services on campus, to receive support with your assignment completion in person.

Your essay will be submitted in this assignment submission tool available on Blackboard. You will need to click “Browse my Computer” to upload your file. It must be attached as a Word document. Late submissions are not accepted. Please discuss any unforeseen delays with your professor in advance of the due date.

Paper should have a thesis (a theory it is trying to prove), and should use several specific examples from various sources, especially primary sources, to support it. The more detailed the better. Sources should be cited, even if not quoting.

Use the textbook “A concise introduction to World religious” edited by: Oxtoby, Amore,Hussain, Segal THIRD EDITION
and additional secondary sources, but you must also use at least one and preferably more primary sources.
If no primary sources, minus ten points. Quote so I know you used it.
A primary source is a source from the time period. It could be a law, diary, letter, newspaper, memoir, article, among other things from the time period. A secondary source would be a history book or text book.
For example: The Diary of Napoleon Bonaparte (copyright 1818) is a primary source, but
Napoleon: The Last Enlightened Despot, by Janet Sanchez (Copyright 2014) is NOT. It is a secondary source.
Number your pages, double space, and have a Works Cited page or Bibliography, and give it a title (“Paper Number Three” is not a name). Points may be taken off for not doing this.

Grammar and capitalization count, and too many errors will reduce your grade.
Note: You should cite your sources and put in WC page even if NOT quoting. Cite within the text of the paper…. (Lets say you have 15 sources in your works cited page—how do I know where you got your information unless you tell me the specific source!!!!!)
Also, cover sheets and WC pages do NOT count towards the page requirement.

Essay Prompt One: (200 points): Consider the United States Constitution and the Texas Constitution. Compare and Contrast TEN ways that these two Constitutions are Similar or Different. Considering that one of the major purposes of written Constitutions is to limit governmental power please make sure that you focus on how the two constitutions achieve that limit in governmental power and the manner in which they accommodate the idea of federalism. Also please include provisions in the two constitutions about the Legislature, Judiciary and Executive and Federalism and how changes to the United States Constitution have affected the Texas Constitution.  How are they similar and how are they different? Essay Prompt Two (100 points): Choose any one of the Texas Executive Agencies (For example, the office of the Attorney General, Department of Agriculture, Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts (consult page 217, table 8-1 in your textbook for a more exhaustive list.) and describe its structure, its powers, its accountability mechanisms, and its role in Texas Government. In Chapter Eight you will find that many of these agencies have been discussed. Please be sure to consult the current web pages of these agencies to make sure you include all current information about who is currently in charge there etc. The following is a link to the state executive offices in Texas. You can choose any one of the 13 listed here. Part 1 :
Create a Socratic dialogue:Start by giving the setting and a desсrіption of the two characters who are speaking (the entire dialogue will be 3.5 pages long). In it, one character persuades another character to accept his/her point of view.

Part 2 is your analysis of your Socratic dialogue. Yes, you will write a mini-essay (3.5 pages, double-spaced) that deconstructs your own writing. It should be a pretty easy write, considering your inside knowledge of the author′s writing process!
Dig deeply into minutia in the dialogue. Analyze closely organization, diction, rhetorical techniques, figurative language, realism of the dialogue, and so on.
You may use terms from the Toulmin Model. Be sure to set up your analysis just as you would a ″real″ essay, with intro, body, and conclusion paragraphs.
As usual, each body paragraph should be structured around transitions, topic sentences, major/minor supporting evidence, and concluding sentences.
