Read “Executive Orders 101: What are they and how do Presidents use them?” posted at https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/executive-orders-101-what-are-they-and-how-do-presidents-usethem/

Nothing seems to rattle the people more than an executive order, especially if they view their
President as being “on the other team.” A few of President Trump’s executive orders certainly made big
news. Most of us, however, don’t know anything more about the contents of these orders than the media
reports convey. Your assignment is to take a deeper look at executive orders and draw your own
conclusions regarding in these orders.
1. Read “Executive Orders 101: What are they and how do Presidents use them?” posted at
https://constitutioncenter.org/blog/executive-orders-101-what-are-they-and-how-do-presidents-usethem/
.
2. Go to http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/executive_orders.php. Here you may use a “drop down” to
change the year and examine executive orders issued from John Quincy Adams to the present. There
is also a data table located at http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/data/orders.php#orderlist which
provides executive order totals by President.
3. After you examine the websites, focus on the executive orders issued by President Trump. Look at
their titles. Are there any you’ve never heard of? Are there any that surprise you? Are there any that
interest you enough to want to know more? Once you’ve perused the orders, choose one to be the
focus of this report. Read that order carefully in order to determine exactly what that order says.
Complete research about your chosen order so that you can provide the information needed for your
presentation.
4. Use the program or app of your choice to create a slide presentation that includes the following
information.

I have included the instructions in a word format. You will form your own personality opinion. No plagiarism. You will have to create a power point slide with 11 slides total. Please honest work, and critical thinking needs to be applied. I will need a turnitin report included as well after completion.

While contemporary developments in Aboriginal law seek to offer some measure of ‘justice’ for Indigenous peoples after a controversial history of dispossession and marginalization, what evidence do you see that Aboriginal law still contains elements geared toward reducing liability and managing risk for the interests of the settler state?

Your first assignment in this course is to write a short paper, approximately 4 to 4.5 pages in length (not including references, title page, etc.), on the following topic/thesis:

While contemporary developments in Aboriginal law seek to offer some measure of ‘justice’ for Indigenous peoples after a controversial history of dispossession and marginalization, what evidence do you see that Aboriginal law still contains elements geared toward reducing liability and managing risk for the interests of the settler state?

While I am giving you a broad question, rather than you coming up with one on your own, there is still a variety of ways in which you can approach this paper. Some students may choose to concentrate on Aboriginal rights, treaty rights, or even Aboriginal status‐membership‐identity, etc. (Or, you can integrate arguments concerning all of these into one paper, as long as you find you are able to do it justice within the length limitation.)

If it suits your paper better, you can reword or adjust the question/thesis. In other words, you can treat it as a topic or theme rather than as a rigidly prescribed, verbatim question/thesis, if need be. If you are highly motivated to do something else for your short paper, come and see me so that we can discuss it.

Note: In this paper on “Aboriginal law,” you can write about both statute (i.e. written law: legislation, constitutional acts, etc.) and case law (i.e. jurisprudence, case law, court decisions, precedents). In fact, I encourage it!

To make a really good impression on the reader (i.e. me), make use of all pertinent knowledge that you can find in the lecture materials, course readings, supplemental readings, and real‐life controversies discussed in the media, etc.

Formatting and References Even though this paper is short, make use of an official style guide. Choose from the APA, ASA, or Chicago format.

You should include a list of references at the end of your paper that includes all of the references you cite. It is important to cite references consistently and correctly throughout your paper
