Media&Marketing Research-Research plan
FREE PLAGIARISM
submit a 2,000-word Research Plan consisting of:
• • A research question
• • An introduction
• • A research aim
• • Three research objectives
• • A literature review
• • A method
• • Ethical considerations
• • An appendix at the end of the plan showing the form of research that will be taken (this is not included in the word count).
This plan will include references to literature from the reading list and from relevant books and papers sourced independently, which will be used to support decisions you have made.
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) that this assignment is testing:
1. Understand the principles of research and critical thinking, including the process of formulating questions, constructing arguments, testing hypotheses and interpreting findings
2. Critically assess the relevance, strengths and weaknesses of different methods in media, communication and marketing research
3. Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative methods and their application to communication research
Assessment Criteria
1. Competence of planning and use of critical literature:
– Formulated sensible and achievable question, aims and objectives.
‐Used relevant critical and secondary sources to place the research in a wider critical context (lit review) and to support research approach (method).
‐Chose a suitable methodology for the question and provided an achievable and appropriate data collection plan.
‐Considered the ethical implications of the research.
2. Content and layout: –
‐Supplied each aspect of the plan requested in the correct order, following the templates provided.
This is a template for Assignment 1. Please follow the indication below for the components of this Assignment and then DELETE THIS PAGE before submission. Formative feedback on each component will be given each week in class and/or during tutorials.
QUESTION
You will be assessed on your ability to formulate a sensible, logical and achievable question; consider the limitations and parameters of your research when formulating the question.
INTRODUCTION – 150 words (recommended)
Briefly introduce why you have chosen your question, and where your research fits in the wider field. This often references the same literature as in the literature review, so use this as a summary argument which will be developed further later in the plan.
RESEARCH AIM – Two or three sentences maximum
A broad statement of the intended outcome of the project.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES – typically 3 objectives, a sentence or two per objective
Objectives are the steps that you need to take to answer your research question. You could view these as a concise list of tasks that need to be completed to accomplish the goals of the project. However, these cannot be methodological (i.e. to do a lit review, to collect data, and so on). Starting points that may be used include, but are not limited to, the following: To consider, to explore, to compare, to investigate, etc.
LITERATURE REVIEW – 1000 words (recommended)
This should lay out the background to the study including citation of appropriate literature sources. It should place your own research in the context of previous research and explain how it will contribute to the body of knowledge in your chosen area. Some literature should be theoretical and critical in nature (as you have used in other essays), but you may also include contextual sources such as statistics, newspaper articles and online sources to provide a background for your chosen topic of study.
RESEARCH METHOD – 750 words (recommended)
This section should consist of a rationale for choice of research design and a description of the methodology employed including the numbers of participants employed /amount of content considered, and details of sampling strategy utilised. The results and discussion which come about from the data collection (Assignment Two) will be wholly informed by the method you have chosen. If done correctly the results and discussion should happen naturally and be easy to relate back to the relevant literature. This section should be critically underpinned by relevant methodological sources.
ETHICS – 50 Words
A consideration of the ethical implications of your research is needed here. If you are dealing with a sensitive topic that involves speaking to a third party (interview, focus group), you will need to refer to unit tutors for approval before performing the research.
APPENDIX
You will have chosen one of the following discussed research formats, and in the appendix you will need to provide proof that your research has been planned and prepared for. If you complete the Appendices template fully, you will have provided all of the data required.
Content analysis -‐ quantitative analysis which focuses on newspaper stories/social media/advertising/politics etc. Could be comparative, must be a realistic aim (eg, if you have chosen to analyse twitter responses to a trending story, you may have to limit your study to a particular date/hashtag/time limit).
Thematic analysis – qualitative analysis of a book/film/advert/TV show. Could be comparative, must be a realistic aim (eg, if you have chosen a TV show, it would be sensible to only pick one episode/story arc/character rather than a whole series).
Survey – a paper based or online survey generating at least 40 responses.
Number of participants:
When and where it will take place: online!!
Number of focus groups (please also note if this will be two different groups or one group that you will interview twice):
Date of Pilot Study:
Questions that will be asked:
How long it should last:
Growing anti-semitism great depression
A). Bibliography
Instructions:
1) Choose a topic of interest to you on an aspect of the material covered in this course (material that we’ve already covered over or will cover this semester). Make sure your topic is not so broad that it would ill suit a possible research paper, but not so narrow that you will not be able to find sufficient research material on it.
2) Identify 3-5 primary sources (e.g., contemporaneous newspaper articles, government documents, letters, memoirs, etc.) relevant to the topic.
3) Find 4-6 secondary sources (historical studies, including books and articles) that in whole or part address your topic.
4) Create an annotated bibliography that should be structured and format along the lines of the example. Annotations can be brief (1-3 sentences) but should provide a basic description of the contents. Please note: I am not asking you to read these sources for the purposes of the bibliography itself (though normally, of course, this would be expected), but only familiarize yourself with them at the most basic level (e.g., reading the table of contents or skimming the text). If you decide to use the bibliography as a basis for writing a short research paper, then of course you must read these sources thoroughly.

B) Paper Assignment
You have three options for the writing assignment (which will be due two weeks before the final class).
1) A short (10 page) research paper based on or adapted from your annotated bibliography.
2) A 10-page thematic comparison and analysis of the two novels assigned in the class: Amy Tan’s The Joy-Luck Club and Anzia Yezierska’s Bread Givers.
3) Two 5-pages papers separately analyzing Goldstein’s The Price of Whiteness and Jennifer Lee’s Civility in the City.
Use journal articles in professional, peer-reviewed accounting and business journals that pertain to the contemporary management technique chosen.
Based on your evaluation of an organization or a segment of an organization in Individual Learning Project 1, select 1 contemporary management technique (listed in the Blocher et al. text) not currently being implemented in the organization/segment that could aid the organization/segment in achieving its critical success factors (CSFs).
Use journal articles in professional, peer-reviewed accounting and business journals that pertain to the contemporary management technique chosen.
Write a research paper in current APA format. The paper must be 11–15 double-spaced pages, with 1-inch margins and current APA pagination. The font must be 12-point Times New Roman. The paper must include references from at least 5 different sources. Be sure to include a title page and a reference page in addition to the essay pages. The title page and the reference page do not count as part of the 11–15-page length requirement.

Listen: “the Art of Hip-Hop” playlist. Try HERE, or HERE (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., or search “Drew Lindsay the art of hip-hop” in Spotify.
(NOTE: if you have any trouble accessing this playlist you have to contact me immediately).
Write:
For each question below, aim to write at least a page. These can be in note format (informal,) but look as closely as you can at the text of these songs.
1.) Choose two of the following verses:
The first verse of Aquemini (Big Boi)
The last verse of Aquemini (“My mind warps and bends”) (Andre 3000)
The first verse of Hootie Hoo
Andre 3000’s verse on Black Ice
Your goal is to simply compare the way these verses work (how the rappers approach each verse). Talk about the tools each rapper uses – try to talk about the “style” of that verse. Talk about the things they do, and talk about the differences between them. Your first act is to OBSERVE. Just see what they do.
2.) Compare the first verse of “Chum” to the second verse of “Hive”

3.) Read: “the Gilded Six BitsPreview the document”
match any two songs from the “Art of Rap” playlist to this story. Explain your logic – explain the connection.
Why was the French and Indian War ultimately the cause of the American Revolution that broke out in 1775? What were the consequences of that Revolution by the time of the battle of Saratoga? Did the Revolution change character after that? What and where was the focus of the American war after Saratoga, and how successful was it compared to beforehand?
The first question asks specifically about the causes and consequences of the European Imperial conquest of America, beginning in the 16th century. It asks why the Europeans undertook this conquest, and then how the Europeans accomplished this conquest. Regarding the latter, the possible answers are disease, guns, or alliances with various Indians. Please address these possible answers as we discussed them in class. Which answer is best supported by the evidence? We also ask about the consequences of such European Imperialism, and whether that ultimately benefitted the European Imperialists. We answer that by examining the legacy of the Spanish conquest of Latin America, as well as by comparing the 2 kinds of English colonies in North America. One kind conquered land from Indians, and the other bought it. Which benefitted the English more, ultimately? And, as always, why?
The second question asks about the causes and consequences of slavery in colonial America. It asks who was enslaved, and why? The possible answers are racism and/or greed. Are those 2 motives possibly in contradiction with each other? Please address the discussion we had in class about this. Why were different racial groups involuntarily forced to labor in America? How and why did European Imperialists decide which racial group would be most profitably enslaved? In analyzing who was enslaved, please define the concept of slavery, even as it may have gone by different names. We also want to know about the consequences of enslavement, and whether that form of labor, as opposed to its opposite, free labor, ultimately benefitted more the ruling classes. As stated, the purpose of this question is to ask whether purpose of imperialism was vindicated by its consequences, not only to its victims, but also to its perpetrators.
Third, What are the causes and consequences of the American Revolution, or Revolutions, from 1754 to 1800? Did Americans, over those decades, alternately support policies of Imperialism and its opposite, republicanism? If so,why? And what were the consequences of each choice? Were those consequences successful, or not? Why did some Americans support, and some oppose, the French and Indian War? What or who caused that war, ie, which side was guilty of aggression? Why did opposition to that war increase after it?
Fourth, Why was the French and Indian War ultimately the cause of the American Revolution that broke out in 1775? What were the consequences of that Revolution by the time of the battle of Saratoga? Did the Revolution change character after that? What and where was the focus of the American war after Saratoga, and how successful was it compared to beforehand?
Fifth, What was the primary nature of the US Constitution: to increase or decrease the power of the central/Federal Government? What accounts for that change? What were the causes and consequences of Shays Rebellion and the Whisky Rebellion, and how significant were they? How successful was the presidency of John Adams and what were the circumstances of the debate then between the Federalists and the Republicans? What were the causes and consequences of the Revolution of 1800 and the War of 1812?
Please discuss these issues as we discussed them in class and you read them in our textbook. Please include the pertinent details, dates, and debates on the important issues, both historical, and as they may relate to our own time
Think about the last context or situation in which you taught or were a student. Considering the issues Harmer (2004) raised (time, space, marking) would it be possible to use process writing in your situation? f you haven’t done so already, it is worth trying to list the micro-skills which make up this macro-skill. It’s also important to remember that this skill, unlike the skill of speaking, is not automatically acquired. Learning to write is not a natural, more or less inevitable process. -What are the advantages and disadvantages of this approach to teaching writing? -Would you need to modify the classic approach to make it useful in your context

product and process approaches and the discourse focus of writing teaching, do you
think the tasks in Harmer (2003) qualify as good writing tasks?

3- Evaluating a CALL task
Consider the eight conditions of optimal learning environments provided by Egbert et al (1999). In the light of these, read Table 1 from the PDF (Golonka et al, 2014), Technologies for foreign language learning, and choose one technology to evaluate in terms of its contribution to language learning. It will be helpful if you also read the associated literature review relating to this technology which you’ll find later in the article. Suggest improvements which could be made. This replaces the existing Core Online Activity (p.178) for this unit, as well as Readings 11.2 and 11.3. The reason for this change is that Golonka’s article is far more current than those it replaces. However, Reading 11.4 (Egbert) and its eight conditions is still applicable.
4- Lesson planning and enhancing communication in the target language
Activity 10.2 Understanding the much-favoured approach of Communicative Language Teaching. NB: The Study Guide listed Core Reading 10.4 is unavailable for copyright reasons. Please substitute the Richards on CLT PDF and the chapter from “A Brief History of ELT” under the “For Student Interest” FLO heading to carry out Core Online Activity 10.2.
What are your thoughts on CLT?
• Are there aspects which appeal, or elements of your context that might make it difficult to employ this approach?
• Are you thinking of using any communicative activities in your developed Lesson Plan?
• Are you considering a blend of approaches? If so, think about (and try to gather substantiation for) your decision. This will be useful material to highlight in your Lesson Planning Journal
Online Activity 10.4: Planning your own lesson. Practicum students should use a lesson they delivered at TAFE for this task
You do not necessarily have to plan an entire Unit or course in detail. Just construct an outline, and decide where the lesson you are developing would best fit into this outline.
The questions in the Study Guide imply a degree of detail which you do not need to go into here. However, have a broad idea of your framework will help you to contextualise your lesson.
Plan to assess student learning.
5-Deciding how to assess student learning
Use your experience of assessment, and what you have learned about ways of assessing in your reading and research to determine some ways of assessing your students’ learning. A mix of assessmnet types tends to create a richer and more accurate picture of where students are at.
Post your own assessment plan under this Activity banner. Be sure to give another student feedback on this one too.
From the point of view of this topic, assessment can be formal or informal, or a mix. It does not have to equate to a grade. For example, it could be a list of competencies achieved by students.

The Classification assignments requires you to organize a topic into categories and then provide examples of what characteristics fit into each category.
The Classification assignments requires you to organize a topic into categories and then provide examples of what characteristics fit into each category.
You have several options for this assignment, so you will need to choose one:
• Classify the types of writers
• Classify the types of bosses/supervisors
• Classify the types of monsters
• Classify the types of characters
• Classify the types of heroes
• Classify the types of dance
• Classify the types of teachers
• Classify the types of roommates
• Classify the types of dates
• Classify the types of mothers
Keep in mind that these are general topics. You may need to further subdivide these general topics in order to have a specific enough topic for your essay. For instance, dance may be divided into cultural dances, for one, and then even further into Mexican dances. Famous guitarists could be divided into rock guitarists, and then further into bass guitarists.
Regardless of the topic you choose, you will need to identify its classifications and provide enough evidence to prove that your classifications are correct. This evidence (details, reasons, and/or examples) needs to be corroborated by at least one other credible source. Failure to use a credible source for support will constitute a point deduction. This resource from the course will help you understand more about evaluating sources.
Properly cite others’ ideas and language according to MLA guidelines (this resource from the course will help). If you use any exact words from your source, you must put those exact words in quotation marks and included a parenthetical citation. If you put source material into your own words (i.e., if you paraphrase), you will not need quotation marks, but you will need a parenthetical citation. Make sure that your parenthetical citations correspond to the works cited entry. In addition to the evidence, you must explain how the evidence you present proves that your classifications are correct.
To make your classifications clear, examine only one classification per body paragraph. The body of the essay should follow a logical progression. You may choose to organize your essay based on any one of the following:
• Move from the least important classification to the most important classification
• Move from the most important classification to the least important classification
• Move from the largest category to the smallest one • Move from the smallest category to the largest one
• If the classifications occur in a set space, move from left to right OR right to left
• If the classifications occur in a set space, move from back to front OR front to back
As with all college writing, your essay should have a strong thesis statement in addition to an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Here is an idea of how you might introduce your essay if you were classifying types of sports fans : On a clear, warm evening in June, thousands of Americans might be getting ready to watch a baseball game. These fans may stop by concessions to grab a hot dog and cold drink before ambling to their seats, and they might be in the grandest arena or in the smallest of baseball parks. But regardless of location, any given baseball game will find among its fans the following three types: the Fair-weather Fan, the Diehard Fan, and the Newbie.
Tip: Notice how this introduction provides vivid description of the scene while preparing the reader for what the main focus will be.
As seen in the example above, you might use this as a simple guideline in crafting your thesis:
The three most ubiquitous baseball fans are the (first fan type), the (second fan type), and (third fan type).
The guidelines for this assignment are as follows:
Length: This assignment should be at least 500 words.
