Manufacturing Overhead

Assignment 2: Manufacturing Overhead

Borealis Manufacturing has just completed a major change in its quality control (QC) process. Previously, products had been reviewed by QC inspectors at the end of each major process, and the company’s 10 QC inspectors were charged to the operation or job as direct labor. In an effort to improve efficiency and quality, a computerized video QC system was purchased for $250,000. The system consists of a minicomputer, fifteen video cameras, and other peripheral hardware and software. The new system uses cameras stationed by QC engineers at key points in the production process. Each time an operation changes or there is a new operation, the cameras are moved, and a new master picture is loaded into the computer by a QC engineer. The camera takes pictures of the units in process, and the computer compares them to the picture of a “good” unit. Any differences are sent to a QC engineer, who removes the bad units and discusses the flaws with the production supervisors. The new system has replaced the 10 QC inspectors with two QC engineers.

The operating costs of the new QC system, including the salaries of the QC engineers, have been included as factory overhead in calculating the company’s plant-wide manufacturing-overhead rate, which is based on direct-labor dollars. The company’s president is confused. His vice president of production has told him how efficient the new system is. Yet there is a large increase in the overhead rate. The computation of the rate before and after automation is as follows:

Before After
Budgeted Manufacturing Overhead 1,900,000 2,100,000
Budgeted Direct Labor Cost 1,000,000 700,000
Budgeted Overhead Rate 190% 300%
“Three hundred percent,” lamented the president. “How can we compete with such a high overhead rate?”

Using the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research manufacturing overhead.

Review the situation. Complete the following:

Define “manufacturing overhead,” and:
Cite three examples of typical costs that would be included in manufacturing overhead.
Explain why companies develop predetermined overhead rates.
Explain why the increase in the overhead rate should not have a negative financial impact on Borealis Manufacturing.
Explain how Borealis Manufacturing could change its overhead application system to eliminate confusion over product costs.
Describe how an activity-based costing system might benefit Borealis Manufacturing.
Write a 3–4-pages paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.doc.

Applying Balanced Scorecard

Assignment 1: Discussion—Applying Balanced Scorecard

In many cases, managers end up in trouble as they direct their focus exclusively on cost savings. Cost cutting is always emphasized, but other impacts, such as decreased quality, can be overlooked. These overlooked impacts can have a significant effect on the revenue and profitability of an organization. The balanced scorecard is a measure to assure that management is not exclusively driven by cost, but balanced with other measures that also can significantly influence the performance of an organization.

Using the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research balanced scorecard and its application.

Select a service industry organization of your choice. Complete the following for the selected organization:

Recommend at least two performance measures in each of the balanced scorecard categories.
Explain each of your recommendations.
Using these measures as examples, explain how use of the balanced scorecard can increase the economic value added within the organization.
By the due date assigned, post your response to the Discussion Area. Through the end of the module, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses.

black lives matter FULL DISSERTATION

An excellent, well written and researched piece, which is able to clearly distinguish between history and its representations in pursuit of a critical argument. Very relevant and up to date.

You include references to some very relevant sources – Solomon Godeau etc. and explore the importance of photography to the civil rights movements of the 1950s/60s. Excellent research and a very clear thread supported by clear, legible description, and relevant factual research. Your ability to précis and summarise contributes to the clarity of your writing.

Make sure you look at the work of Nicholas Mirzoeff, especially ‘The Appearance of Black Lives Matter’ and his other work on vision and control, as well as exploring Foucault’s ideas of biopower as they have been interpreted by recent post-colonial writers. Stuart Hall is also a key source.

The passages on research methodology represent some hard work and an attempt to make a framework for the project, which is good. However, some of this can be taken as given – with the essay you are proposing, it would be more productive to outline a critical methodology – this is what you would gain from Hall, and from a deeper understanding of the kinds of methodologies used by writers dealing with vision and difference. Ideas of voice, agency and positionality seem to me to be more important to your subject than formal methodology.

This was for the last essay so please read!!!!!!

I would look at a range of different photographs of the civil rights movement and maybe compare them how they were viewed by different audience at that time.

look into how they were used in America media images to create a negative impression like a battle of images some images were used for different thing like some images were used to scared people.

The news enpowered images to show police brutality Nicholas Mirzoem
Murther luther king / black panther

What this essay needs is good compare and contrast
What my essay needs to build on it is to make it more academic which means you need to compare with something also see it as a battle no all the images supported civil rights no all the images out there supported black lives matter the images were also put out there to say something else.

Theres also another side so compare it to things too

COMMUNITY SERVICE/SUPPORT RESEARCH PROJECT

COMMUNITY SERVICE/SUPPORT RESEARCH PROJECT (85 points total): The purpose of the project is for each student to learn from a family and a community service provider for young children with disabilities and/or their families in their local community. The Project Proposal must be approved by the course instructor prior to beginning the project.

The components of the project include:

1. Identify a family with a young child with a disability.
For example, use your personal and professional networks to help you identify a family with a young child with a disability younger than 6 years old. For example, I am going to call the mother of a child with an Autism diagnosis in kindergarten at my school. I’ll explain I’m working on my master’s degree and ask if she would be willing to share her experiences with having a child with a disability and services or supports that have been beneficial to him and/or their family as part of a class project.

2. Write and submit project proposal for approval.
Once you have identified a family/child, submit a brief description of who, when, and how you will be complete the family meeting for approval. Also include a brief timeline for completing each component of the project.

3. Meet with the family (at least one parent/guardian) to learn about their child and experiences they have had with services/supports currently utilized or have utilized in the past in the community.
Take notes during or immediately following the meeting. Be sure during the meeting to find out about a service/support that has benefited the child and/or family for you to further learn about. The meeting should be at least at least one hour and must be in person. Additional information could be inquired by emails or phone calls but actual meeting must be in person. Questions to consider are below:

Family Meeting Questions to Consider
• How old is the child? For purpose of this project, the child should be younger than 6 years old.
• What are the child’s strengths?
• What are the child’s challenges?
• What was the process of identifying the disability like?
• What has been most challenging?
• What has been most rewarding?
• What supports or services have been the most beneficial for the child and/or the family?

4. Meet with one of the services/supports of interest where the family has experienced benefits (minimum 1 hour, face-to-face).
For example, during the family meeting I learned that the child has benefited from Equine Therapy across many developmental areas. The mom also mentioned she has benefited from the relationships she has formed with other families with children with disabilities that she has met at the program. I asked the family if I could observe an Equine Therapy session and I plan to contact the program to schedule a time to talk with an employee about their services.

Be sure to take notes during or immediately following meetings and/or observations. You may learn about the service/support in your community by interviewing, observing, or shadowing a service provider. Questions to consider are below:

• What is the purpose or mission of the program?
• How did this service/support get started in our community?
• How is the service/support funding?
• What outcomes/successes have you observed among your clients?
• In what ways do you have a family-centered approach?

5. Find 5 peer reviewed research articles that relate to the child’s diagnosis and community service/support.
For example, based on my conversation with the mom, my journal article search will include: Autism Spectrum, Autism and Equine Therapy, benefits of Equine Therapy for children with disabilities, and social network support among families with children with disabilities.

6. Read and summarize 5 research articles on the disability/topic/service utilizing the Article Summary Form you will learn to use in class.
Start with 1 article. Be sure to look at the reference lists or within text citations to lead you to other articles that may be helpful. You will turn in your first article summary for feedback and then the last 4 altogether. See project due dates.
