Attitudes towards same-sex marriage

Assignment 2: Research Proposal
This is the second of TWO written assignments for this unit.
_________________________________________________________________________
The purpose of this assignment is to help you develop skills at selecting appropriate research
designs and methods to address a research problem. You will prepare a research proposal
that will involve applying your knowledge of scientific research, research approaches and
data collection methods, research formulation, ethics of scientific research, measurement and
sampling methods.

This assignment is a 1,500 word research proposal.
It is worth 35% of your final mark.

The Research Proposal:
You are required to prepare a research proposal – a document that informs others of a
research project that you intend to conduct. This would typically be used when applying for a
postgraduate psychology degree or when working in industry. This proposal should highlight
the potential significance and feasibility of the research project. Moreover, writing a research
proposal often helps individuals structure their thoughts, identify the purpose of their research
and recognise what is involved to conduct the project. It also helps individuals to develop a
plan and specify the expected outcomes.
The general structure of the proposal is shown below. The word counts are given are
guidelines only, you may need to alter these slightly depending on your chosen topic.
• Title page:
The title needs to be brief. Include the key terms that relate to your proposal.

• Introduction: (200 words)
This section should present the relevant background information for the research
project. You will need to introduce the general field of research then narrow to the
specific area of your research project. This section should lead logically to either a
gap in the existing research or the research problem that you believe needs to be
addressed.

• Aim(s): (100 words)
This section should present the research question and/or hypotheses you will
investigate and answer in order to fill the gap in the research or address the research
problem.

• Literature review: (400 words)
This section needs to provide more information about what others have done by
reviewing relevant past research studies. It should highlight the major issues,
definitions of key terms, gaps in the research and the need for your particular
research. You will also need to highlight where your research overlaps and differs
from existing research. This section is intended to contextualise your research
questions.
To help you get started on reviewing previous research, there is a help page available
on the Swinburne library website that includes helpful guides and tips for finding
research articles and books in relevant scientific databases. You can access the help
page via the URL: https://www.swinburne.edu.au/library/search/help/

• Significance/contribution of the research: (200 words)
This section should outline how your research will make a change to an area of
research or respond to a particular problem. This is different from the justification as
it will explain how the research will lead to certain outcomes. In particular, you need
to highlight the importance of the research in terms of the following:
o theoretical contributions
o practical outcomes
• Proposed research methodology: (400 words)
This section should describe and justify the research methodology. To do this, you
should address the following:
o participants;
o methodology (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods);
o design framework (e.g., experimental, non-experimental);
o data collection method(s) (e.g., tests, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups,
observations, existing data);
o sampling method (e.g., random, nonrandom); and
o ethical considerations.

• Scope and Problems: (200 words)
This section needs to define the breadth of the research topic. That is, is the research
focused on a broad research question or will it focus on a particular issue or problem?
It also needs to identify any limitations or potential problems that may occur
throughout the project.

• References
This section should include all of the in-text references that were provided in the
previous sections. This should be in APA format.

The purpose of this Assignment is to enhance knowledge the evaluation and management of acute versus chronic presentation of headache.

Sally’s Headaches
Purpose:
The purpose of this Assignment is to enhance knowledge the evaluation and
management of acute versus chronic presentation of headache.
Case Study Description:
Sally Jones, 45 years old, presents to the primary care clinic with complaint of a headache. She says the
headache usually comes when she is at work. She works as an administrative assistant for a chief Executive
Officer at a local hospital. The headache is usually generalized and bilateral and most of the intensity of pain
is around the neck or the back of her head. Sally says, “When the pain comes it is like a tight band around
my head.” She says the headaches have been occurring more frequently over the past 30 days. Sally takes
“homeopathic” tea she recently bought on her most recent trip to Mexico to visit her family. She does not
believe in taking medicine for pain because of the side effects.
Directions:
Based on the case study please provide a response to each of the following items:
What are the pertinent subjective findings? What other questions would you ask Sally to gain more
information about her headaches?
Describe the focused physical assessment you will perform on this patient. Provide rationale for
conducting the focused assessment and support with peer-reviewed scholarly references.
Identify the diagnostic studies/tests you will order for this patient (if any). Provide scientific, evidencebased
rationale from a nationally accepted clinical guideline to justify the diagnostic studies/tests you
will order for this patient.
Develop a list of three differential diagnoses for Sally’s symptoms. Prioritize the three differential
diagnoses from the most serious diagnosis to the least significant diagnosis.
What is the most likely diagnosis based on Sally’s history of present illness and chief complaint? Is this
condition acute or chronic-provide your justification?
Develop a comprehensive, holistic treatment plan including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic
therapies for this patient taking into consideration Sally’s health belief and cultural belief practices.
Discuss the difference in your pharmacologic intervention in acute versus chronic presentation. How will
your treatment change if your patient is an adolescent?
The length of this paper should be 2–3 pages, not including title page and a reference page

The One Question Ice Breaker Activity
Time required: 15-20 minutes
This icebreaker not only gets co-workers talking to each other, but it also gets them working with one another. It’s quite simple: the leader gets to decide the situation the question will pertain to. Example situations include leading the company, After pairing participants into teams, the leader will pose this question: If you could ask just one question to discover a person’s suitability for (insert topic here), what would your question be? Say the leader chose to go with a marriage situation. That means each person in a two-person team would come up with one question that would help them discover whether or not their partner was suitable to be married to them. If the topic was babysitting, each team member would have to come up with just one question whose answer would help them determine whether or not the person was suitable to babysit their child. This icebreaking activity can also get mixed up by issuing one situation for the entire group or allocating a different situation to each team member or pair to work on. Depending on the situation chosen, the activity can be very fun, but it can also demonstrate that crucial questions should be developed properly.

Classification Game
Time required: 10-15 minutes
The classification game can be a quick icebreaker or a more complex activity. For the purposes of this example, we will treat this activity as a quick icebreaker. Before splitting the room into teams of four, explain the concept of “pigeon-holing someone,” which means classifying someone as something or stereotyping someone. It should be made clear that this type of classification is subjective and unhelpfully judgmental. Instruct the participants to introduce themselves to those in their team and quickly discuss some of their likes, dislikes, etc. After the introductions, reveal to the teams that it will be their job to discover how they should classify themselves- as a team- into two or three subgroups by using criteria that contains no negative, prejudicial, or discriminatory judgments. Examples of these subgroups can include night owls and morning people, pineapple pizza lovers and sushi lovers, etc. This activity encourages co-workers to get to know each other better and enables them to collectively consider the nature of all individuals within the team.

Marketing Strategy Paper # 2

In class we have discussed the Brand Management process and the concepts of Marketing, Strategy, and Marketing Myopia. Paper #1 addressed the concept of Marketing Myopia.
As a foundation to these discussions 2 articles have been assigned to be read:
• The Origin of Strategy
• What is Strategy
In two well-crafted pages (2 pages maximum) choose one (or both) of these articles, discuss the position taken by the author (their hypothesis or focus), what points you agree as well as disagree with, and why. Your arguments, supportive or disagreeing, should be reinforced by some additional outside sourcing (and be sure to incorporate quotes or specific references to those sources).
For the article(s) you’ve chosen be sure your positions and arguments are clear, logical, and focused. If you see a way to incorporate points from multiple articles that is fine but each must be consistent in its position. With just 2 pages your points need to be stated efficiently and without excess verbiage (credit deducted for papers beyond the allowed length by more than a sentence or two).
Grading criteria: Papers will be graded on a 20 point scale (see syllabus). Reiterating just what your chosen author states or what has been presented in class will result in an average graded paper (a grade of 16-17). A good paper (grade of 18) or a superior paper (grade of 19-20) will bring in additional arguments, sources, and original thinking that demonstrate thought and insights beyond what we’ve covered (so some additional research required). Additionally the quality of your writing, its structure and presentation, will also be incorporated as grading criteria.

How Can Freshwater Be Such A Problem on the “Water Planet?

Discussion: How Can Freshwater Be Such A Problem on the “Water Planet?”
Water defines planet earth. No other single substance is so important and so taken for granted by most Americans. This week, we get to explore this fascinating substance. In preparing to respond to this week’s Forum Discussion, read through chapter (11 and 14) for the assigned readings, and watch the video clips.

Water is a global problem, and Brown (2008) provides an excellent summary of the problem in his book. The book is available online at the following website. Do take the time to Read Chapter 4, Emerging Water Shortages, to get a good idea just how widespread this problem has become: http://www.earth-policy.org/images/uploads/book_files/pb3book.pdf (It’s 14 pages starting on page 68.)
Brown gives an overview of some of the World’s water problems. Here in the arid West, we have an old saying, “Whiskey is for drinking; water is for fighting!” I suspect that no matter where you live, you can identify a water issue. For the first discussion item, do the following:
• Describe a water issue where you live. This could be a water quality or quantity issue, or both.
• Do you have a solution? If so, describe how you would solve the problem.
One lesson you should take from this class is that all things are connected. The choices we make influence our local environment and may have global consequences. What do you currently do or what could you do to conserve water quantity or quality? Don’t limit your water conservation thinking to simply putting a brick in the toilet. In addition to the changes you can make in your home or your landscaping, consider the water use consequence of the food and merchandise you buy or what goes down the drain.
• In a paragraph or two, describe actions you have taken or intend to take to save water, or organizations you support that are making a difference. If you find any interesting websites, shares those with the class.

Write at least 200 words.

Discussion — Solutions to Solid and Hazardous Waste Problem

In this discussion topic, I would like to know what your views are on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Let us all know how you either store, recycle, or dispose of paints, solvents, and electronic waste including computers, cell phones, compact fluorescent lights, and batteries. Should the stores that sell these items make more of an effort to facilitate the recycling of these items?
Check with your local government to see what recycling programs they sponsor, and possibly visit your local hardware store to see if they accept items such as used light bulbs and batteries.

Discussion: Wetlands
Wetlands are one of the most important and least appreciated features of the landscape. Read through the wetland information on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website (http://water.epa.gov/type/wetlands/functions.cfm) or go directly to the information on Wetland Functions and Values.

There are lots of different types of wetlands. This website gives a pretty complete list. Click on each wetland type for a brief description of each one.
http://water.epa.gov/type/wetlands/types_index.cfm

Forum Discussion: Visit a local wetland

After you have completed reading the wetland functions and values information, I would like for you to go visit a local wetland. Wander around the wetland and spend some time observing any wildlife that might be present. Perhaps you just want to sit for a while and observe the wetland and how it fits into the surrounding watershed? Think about the following questions.

• What type of wetland do you think it is? Cattail marsh, Wet meadow, Fen Describe the wetland you visited.
• What types of wildlife might use the wetland you visited? What wildlife did your observe?
• Does it serve any flood control or water quality functions?
• Does it have any aesthetic value?
• Are there any interesting plants? (Have you ever taken the mature seed head of a cattail and squeezed it in our hand? Try it, but not in your car or house.)

Then I would like for you write down your observations in a paragraph or two and post them.

Patient treatment

For this project, you will take on the role of a nurse practitioner treating a patient with a chronic condition. Your patient is not completely satisfied with the treatments you’ve tried and asks about a specific alternative therapy. Unfamiliar with these sorts of therapies, you decide to do some research before making recommendation. In this case, you get to decide what condition your patient has and which intervention he or she is interested in trying. Your objective is to determine whether or not you would recommend the regular treatment either alone or in combination with alternative treatment. The paper should not be more than 4 pages excluding the title page and references. APA format is required with a professional paper.
Note: 4 pages excluding the title page and references

Environmental Engineer, I was in Environmental Science class
i notice I have strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information effectively in person and in
writing. I also have excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills. I had a lot of club or activities about Environment for instance Charity Water Club: While doing this activity, I realized how many people in other countries are dying because I know the importance of water and food that I usually eat. So I am thankful for the environment I live in. another Flea market Waste segregation:Participated in program that picked up garbage that people and merchants throw away and told people where to find their way to keep clean the street.
Back to middle school i was walking to my home everyday through the Han river. And i smelled the nasty trash near the Han river which people just leave the trash after their picnic because there was a lot of store that sell all kind of foods. At the afternoon people passed by Han river, covering their noses. When i saw this situation i thought it is really uncomfortable and unfair situation for who live near Han river include my family. So i started to research how to fix this environment problem. I wanted to discuss with people about this problem but at that time i was too young for do that so i couldn’t do anything. And i decided when i grow up i promise to solve that river environment problem. Clearly environmental engineer will give me joy and i can do the best for this job.
