Using a Johari Window analysis, what do you think some of your supervisor’s or subordinate’s blind spots are? What do you think some of your potential blind spots might be?

As with all of the assignments for this class, first make sure to thoroughly review the required background materials. Make sure you fully understand the concepts of the Johari Window as well as Transactional Analysis. You need to have a solid understanding of these important concepts in order to successfully complete this assignment.

We will once again be applying the concepts from this module to your own experiences as a way of finding potential ways to develop your leadership skills. For this assignment, choose a current or former supervisor or subordinate and think carefully about how the concepts from the Johari Window and Transactional Analysis applies to this current or previous supervisor/subordinate relationship. Think carefully about the flow of information and communication between the two of you, and also times when either of you behaved as “adults,” “parents,” or “children” in your dealings with each other. Don’t worry, this assignment will be purely between you and your instructor so feel free to be as honest and self-reflective as you can.

More specifically, write a 4- to 5-page paper answering the following questions below. Make sure to cite at least one of the required readings in each answer, and to cite at least three sources total from the background readings in your paper:
1.Using a Johari Window analysis, what do you think some of your supervisor’s or subordinate’s blind spots are? What do you think some of your potential blind spots might be?
2.Also using a Johari Window analysis, what kind of hidden spots did you keep between you and your supervisor or subordinate? Did you suspect your supervisor or subordinate of having hidden spots?
3.Based on your answers to Questions 1 and 2 above as well as the required readings, how might Johari Window analysis be used to improve this supervisor/subordinate relationship that you wrote about in the above two answers?
4.Using Transactional Analysis, give some specific examples of when you and your supervisor or subordinate acted like “parents,” “children,” or “adults.” And be honest—we all act like “children” sometimes in the workplace.
5.Based on your answer to Question 4 and the required readings, how do you think this supervisor/subordinate relationship might have been improved using Transactional Analysis?

The Chrysanthemums by Steinbeck – text analysis

This paper will be 2 parts, the first part is text analysis. Possible starting places for you text analysis research may include the author’s life, politics, the social context of the work, philosophical musings, how and why the work evokes a particular feeling in your, cultural relevance, or the components of the text such as significance of setting, narrative voice, imagery, or symbolism. This kind of text analysis must use the rules of a compare and, or, contrast essay. In this text analysis you also need a thesis. your paper will explore a problem or point of interest created by the work of literature, this includes but is not limited to, character motivation, thematic elements, symbol, irony, etc. your ideas and insights will be based on information from the pages in the text.

Concepts and Issues in Corruption. Organizational Misbehavior and Ethics Management Research Methods

The first part of the assignment focuses on research methods and referencing. The second part is more substantive and focuses on organizational misbehavior.
Your score for this assignment will, of course, rely on the substance of your answers but it will also depend on the extent to which you respect the basic rules for academic writing. This concerns three aspects:
– Most importantly, this means that you do not commit plagiarism. For the consequences of plagiarism please check the MACS Academic Handbook.
– It is also essential that you use the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) guide (Anglia Ruskin University 2017) and the addendum as guidelines for your referencing, both for in-text references and for the reference list at the end of the assignment. You will be expected to follow those rules not only in this assignment but in all your assignments during your MACS studies.
– Finally, it is also very important that you use proper academic writing style and layout. For that, follow the recommendations in the style guide (see part III of Turabian (2017) where necessary. Also use the very useful advice in the chapters 5, 6 and 7 of Turabian (2017) to inspire and improve your writing in this exercise.
Maximum number of words: 1500(+- 10%)

Part 1: A research question with some initial references (max 750 words)

1.1. Research question and research hypotheses
– Formulate one good empirical research question on a topic that you would like to empirically investigate and that relates to corruption. Make sure that it is an empirical research question that can be answered by an empirical study by a master student within one year. Turabian {(2017, chapter 2) (1 This assignment does not refer to pages but to paragraphs and chapters to accommodate students working with the e-version of Turabian (2017)}. provides useful general guidance on formulating questions. King and Wincup (2008: 13-23) provide more specific background on how to write a good research question for empirical research. (Please note that this is just an introductory exercise. For your actual dissertation, you can work on an entirely different topic).
– Formulate two initial (working) hypotheses in response to your research question. Again, use Turabian (2017, paragraph 2.3) and King and Wincup (2008: 13-23) as inspiration. In formulating these propositions, try to make some link with theory or the academic literature.
1.2. Explanation
– Write a brief text (think about the word limit!) that argues why this is a good research question referring to Turabian’s (2017, paragraph 2.1.4) considerations and why these are relevant hypotheses.
– In your text, you should refer to 5 academic sources (e.g. academic journal, book, book chapter) relevant to your research question. In order to find those sources, use the recommendations provided in Chapter 3 of Turabian (2017). – Refer to these sources in your text using in-text citations.
This is a brief example: Some researchers (e.g. Punch 2009) have addressed this topic, but only in European countries. The research question that is proposed here targets countries outside Europe. Specifically…
1.3. Reflection on the relevance and reliability of the used sources
– For each of the five sources, first write the full reference following the ARU guidelines and then discuss briefly:
o its relevance (Turabian 2017, paragraph 3.3.1): be as specific as possible on how this source will help you answering your question;
o its reliability (Turabian 2017, paragraph 3.3.2): make sure you address the different aspects of reliability.
Again, here is a brief example: – Punch, M., 2009. Police corruption. Deviance, accountability and reform in policing. London: Routledge. o Relevance: This offers a very thorough analysis of corruption in European countries. Therefore it can give very useful insights to address the research question. o Reliability: The book is written by a well-known academic with extensive research experience. It has been published by an important academic publisher (Routledge), although there is no mentioning of peer review.

Part 2: Essay on organizational Misbehavior (max 750 words)

2.1 Essay: organizational misbehavior
Before this part 2 of the assignment, you will have to go through the mandatory readings of days 1 and 2 of the course on Organizational Misbehavior. As mentioned above, make sure to follow the ARU-guide and addendum for referencing and to follow the style guidelines. Also use chapters 5, 6 and 7 of Turabian (2017) to inspire and improve your writing.
Robinson and Greenberg (1999) distinguish between five dimensions of deviance: perpetrator, intention, target, action, and consequence. These offer an interesting framework to analyze specific cases of organizational misbehavior. Briefly analyze the case of “deadly transport” (see mandatory reading) addressing Robinson and Greenberg’s five dimensions.
Punch, M., 2008. The organization did it: individuals, corporations and crime. In: Minkes, J. and Minkes, L. eds., Corporate and white-collar crime, London: Sage, pp. 102-121. You only need the case Deadly transport (pp. 111-115).
Below are some of the questions that you might want to address in answering the assignment, but not all might be relevant to the case and you might think of other relevant elements that would fit Robinson and Greenberg’s 5 dimensions.
– Who is the perpetrator? Is it an insider or outsider? Is it a person or an organization?
– What were the perpetrator’s intentions? Were they intentionally harmful? Or was the behavior unintentional?
– Towards whom or what was the behavior directed (i.e. what were the targets)? Were these actors within or outside the organization? Were these individual, organizational or other targets?
– What was the nature of the actions? Did they violate organizational and/or societal norms?
– What were the harmful, but perhaps also beneficial, consequences of the behavior?
As for the structure of your text, start with an introduction, then structure your argument around Greenberg’s 5 dimensions, and end with a brief conclusion.
3.2 Reference list
Add a reference list at the end of your assignment. List all sources that you used in the essay. For this reference list, use, very meticulously, the rules in the ARU-guide and its addendum (see reading list). Practice these rules in ARU’s online tutorial (see reading list).
The reference list is not included in the word count.
In order to develop in-text citations and generate this reference list (or bibliography), we recommend to use the ‘references’ function in Word. This allows you to develop a database of all your sources in Word and then use that database to insert in-text references and to automatically generate a reference list at the end. You can find useful information on this at:
– https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19-E1OCdvbY
When using this possibility, which is certainly recommended, make sure you follow these guidelines:
– Make sure you use the ‘Harvard – Anglia’ style (not the default ‘APA’) for the reference list.
– Make sure that in the ‘manage sources’ application you provide all the information that the ARU-guide requires (usually this coincides with the ‘recommended fields’ indicated with a red asterisk). E.g. for a journal article add volume, issue, page numbers etc.; for a website also fill out ‘year, month and day accessed’. In order to make all field available, click ‘show all bibliography fields’.
– Make sure that in the ‘manage sources’ application your input of the information is consistent with the ARU-guide. E.g. for a heading of a chapter, book or article do not use capitals (unless when necessary e.g. for the first word or a name of an institution or person); for a journal name or for a publisher name use capitals.
– Most importantly, always check your reference list at the end and check whether it is consistent with the ARU-guidelines. The reference might look differently when you see at as a reference instead of in the ‘manage sources’ application.
– Please note that you can remove coding by selecting the text (e.g. the reference list) and typing the combination CTRL-6. Please note that this irreversible. The coding disappears after this is done.

Capstone Project Blog Week 7

Follow Blog Instructions and Formatting Template for entry

I filled out some of the sections to keep you on track with my progress. Please complete the missing sections using nursing journal or information from the CDC (at least 2 references). I included my classmates Blog to provide extra guidance.

  1. The blog is intended to serve as a journal for your project throughout the semester. It is the mechanism through which you report progress (or lack of progress!), and share information relevant to project implementation and evaluation.
  2. Blog entries should be entered every other week. Each entry should be as concise and substantive as possible and show the progress you are making with your project. Comment on two of your classmates blogs 3. Please provide entries according to the following format to provide consistency across all blogs.
  3. a. Introduction/overview of week’s goals and accomplishments*

-My goal during the last two weeks has been to develop an effective 10 question survey for dialysis patients with Central Venous Catheter to assess their level of knowledge The project is not intended to teach patients to change their own dressings on their catheters, but rather monitoring the integrity of their dressings in order to recognize when a dressing change is indicated.

-Second, I managed to set up a meeting with the unit manager to discuss the implementation of using a patient survey to assess knowledge and perception of CVC care. I mentioned that an explanation of the survey will be provided and completion of the questionnaire will be assumed to imply consent. Ethical considerations include confidentiality of individual and institutional responses being protected.

-Lastly, I began to ultize the questionnaire with a total of 9 clients thus far. Responses were being collected in hours, days or frequencies per week. Participant answers were responded to in an impartial manner, with no discussion as to the correctness of responses.

  1. Challenges (anticipated and unanticipated) faced and strategies used to overcome challenges/barriers*

  1. Utilization of coaching and/or mentoring to assist you in your work; as well as noting any coaching or mentoring you offered to those helping you carry out this project

I sought out assistance from upper management, as well as approval from various other key players, such as the Infection Control, Compliance, Quality Improvement, Home Health Education, Case Management, Outpatient Management, and Information Technology Departments. It was essential to tailor specific parts of the project to address the concerns and values related to each individual department.

  1. Capstone Project Plan Progress: Is project progressing according to plan and timeline? Explain and amplify.
  2. Leadership lessons learned
  3. Outcomes achieved
  4. Track clinical hours weekly / running total in your blog (90 total required for course)

5 hours were spent collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to review the questionaaire and gain approval

10 clinical hours were spent gathering data using the 10 guestion survey

3 hours were spent doing research to develop the questionnaire comparing it to evidence based practices.

Week’s Goals/Accomplishments:

One of my main goals for the past week was setting up a meeting with the nurse manager of the Geriatrics unit to discuss the implementation of a bedside fall intervention poster to prevent patient falls. I met with the nurse manager and showed her the “Fall TIPS (Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety) Sheet” I will be basing my bedside poster on (Brigham & Women’s Hospital, 2016). She liked the idea and made some suggestions to modify the sheet in order to be compliant with HIPPA.

My next goal was to use the feedback from the nurse manager and create a draft of my poster. The poster will include weather the patient is on bedrest or if they need 1 or 2 people assist when ambulating. It will also include if the patient uses a walking aid such as a walker or cane. There will be other options that could be checked off, such as if a bed alarm is in place. At the bottom of the sheet I would also like to add a reminder of other fall interventions like keeping the floor dry and wearing non-slip socks (Tzeng & Yin, 2017).

A third goal of this week was to meet again with the staff members of the unit to discuss the implementation of the bedside poster and get feedback. I felt that I took a step to motivate and empower the staff about the poster by discussing its possible benefits. This is an important aspect of leadership because when staff is empowered, they are more likely to critically think and be active in their roles (Roussel, Thomas, & Harris, 2016). They gave me positive feedback and felt that the poster could be useful when they are covering for patients they are not familiar with. I want to keep the design of the poster simple as I do not want to create more work for the staff.

Challenges/Strategies:

One of the challenges I faced this past week was when I met with the nurse manager to speak about the bedside poster. The challenge was including useful information on the poster without violating HIPPA. This was an opportunity to demonstrate leadership through relationship building, teamwork and collaboration with the manager to solve the dilemma (Roussel et al., 2016). The manager felt that including that a patient was forgetful would be against HIPPA, but after brainstorming, we decided to include as an intervention “needs reorientation.”

Another challenge was setting up a meeting with the manager. She and I both have busy schedules, but we eventually were able to come to an agreement on a date and time. I was able to utilize my mentor, Daryl, in this situation to help set up a time for the meeting. This is one of the benefits of having a mentor in the project because of his professional relationships and ability to share his experiences with me (Durham University, 2018).

A third challenge faced was when I was researching the use of bed alarms. I found information that was conflicting with the hospital’s practice. They currently use bed alarms as a fall prevention intervention, but it has been shown that there isn’t a significant reduction of falls or injury with the use of bed alarms (Schoen, Cull, & Buckhold, 2016). After reading this information I wanted to speak to the unit staff about their opinion on bed alarm use. They felt that it is useful in the Geriatric setting because many of their patients are forgetful or have altered mental status and usually are slow when getting out of bed, giving them enough time to respond to the alarm. Nurses shared stories of close catches in which the bed alarm prevented falls. I decided to include if the patient had a bed alarm on the poster because of their use of bed alarms on the unit.

Utilization of Mentor:

Like I mentioned earlier, I was able to use my mentor to facilitate communication between the unit’s nurse manager and myself to set up a meeting. I have also been sharing my ideas about the bedside poster and have been getting positive feedback from Daryl. He also communicated to me that when I plan to implement he be in touch with the assistant director of nursing. Daryl has been supportive through my research process and has introduced me to staff members of the Geriatrics unit.

Project Plan Progress:

I feel that the project is progressing well. Now that I have met with the nurse manager and discussed the implementation of my intervention, I need to design the final version of my bedside fall intervention poster. The poster will then be printed on laminated paper so that it can be cleaned and reused. After that I will again meet with the unit staff to further explain how to use the poster and how it could prevent falls. I’m going to familiarize the staff with how to fill out the poster and answer any questions. I will continue to utilize my mentor for advice and if any issues arise.

Leadership Lessons:

One of the leadership lessons I learned this past week was when speaking with the nurse manager and collaborating to move this project closer to implementation. Effective leadership involves collaboration “to review evidence and deliver recommendations for team-based approaches to deliver the highest quality, lowest cost, evidence-based care that also maximizes the patient experience” (Roussel et al., 2016, p. 55). Another lesson learned in the past weeks was that communication is essential in leadership, which is why I have been speaking to the staff on the unit about my project. According to Orchard, Sonibare, Morse, Collins, & Al-Hamad (2017), nurse leaders with exceptional communication skills motivate team members rather than give orders. This was my intention, as I did not want to come off to the staff as simply giving orders and directions. Transformational leadership style is beneficial in this situation because the leader will provide the motivation to reach goals, and the team will work together for the best results (St. Thomas University, 2018).

Outcomes Achieved:

Outcomes achieved to date include researching ideas for my fall intervention bedside poster, meeting with the nurse manager, meeting with staff, and developing a draft for my poster.

Clinical Hours:

Week 4 (9 hours): Research for bedside poster, discussions with mentor,

Week 5 (9 hours): Met with nurse manager, developed draft of bedside poster, met with staff members

Compare/Contrast Different Strategies

Compare/Contrast Different Strategies

Instructions

Imagine that you are leading a strategic retreat in which your diverse leadership team will make key decisions about your strategic plan. It is your job to lead the discussion, stimulate healthy debate from diverse points of view, and leave with a strategy that is right for your business. The strategic plan will not be performed yet; however, you will have chosen a strategy by the end of the retreat. In the first 4 weeks of this course, you reflected on how to think strategically, and you analyzed your customers and competition based on solid data that you have gathered. You also performed key analyses using that data and you reflected on your company’s mission, vision, and values and how this relates to the strategic plan. Now it is time to use that data and analyses to choose a strategy that best fits your company.
This assignment has two parts. In the first part, you will summarize your approach to the workshop. In a 2 to 3-page essay, include the following:
Setting expectations: What are your key expectations for this workshop?
Managing status: How will you minimize the status effect so all can contribute?
Setting ground rules: What are the most important ground rules for how people should make comments and how decisions will be made?
Managing conflict: What will be your approach to conflict resolution?
Getting started: How will you begin the workshop?
In the second part of this assignment, choose the three most critical of the many criteria Tracy discusses in Chapter 7, and then detail your expected results of the analysis once the meeting has been conducted by SWOT analysis for the three criteria selected. Use your professional judgment or experiences to predict what you believe the meeting participants concluded for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. As Peter Drucker said, “Errant assumptions lie at the root of every failure.” Part 2 should be approximately 3 to 4 pages. You may want to review the following SWOT analyses from the library, found in the Week resources:

Sysco Corporation
Cisco Systems
Ebara Corporation
American Airlines
Support your paper with a minimum of three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages
Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Which values should one extol, cherish, apply, or seek in one’s lives—that of Pericles’ honor, courage and freedom or those of Plato—justice, courage, wisdom, and temperance? Why? (1b) Which ones would lead to becoming a better citizen? And why?

. QUESTIONS

(1a) Which values should one extol, cherish, apply, or seek in one’s lives—that of Pericles’ honor, courage and freedom or those of Plato—justice, courage, wisdom, and temperance? Why? (1b) Which ones would lead to becoming a better citizen? And why? (1c) Which ones would lead to a more ‘flourishing’ (or better) state (country) and WHY? *1d) Which ones would lead to becoming a better ruler, king, or president (presently)? And why? (1e) Explain if these qualities should be taught by the state? If not, WHY? (1f) If so, then what should be the state’s role in enhancing the citizen’s quality of life? Explain your answers fully and if possible use examples and quotes from the text. RED denotes change.

(2a) Compare the political thought of power between Pericles (in his ‘Funeral Oration’) and Plato (in his Republic)? (2b) Which one do you agree with? (2c) Make sure you explain where power comes from AND how is this power is projected onto its citizens. (2d) Which of the two versions of the concept of power should a state (country) follow? And why? Explain your answers fully and if possible use examples and quotes from the text. RED denotes elaboration.

(3a) Explain the nature of wisdom and courage in a state (also give examples from the text) according to Socrates in Plato’s Republic. (3b) Which one should a state (country) have? And why? (3c) Should (all or some of) these qualities reside in ‘guardians’ or in more contemporary times, in our politicians and leaders? Why or why not? *(3d) Explain which ones seem to be more important than others. RED denotes elaboration.

*Notice the difference between questions 3c and 1d. Question 1d asks which ones actually (in realist terms) help a leader and implies the explanation of both Pericles’ and Plato’s qualities. Question 3c asks which ones ought or should reside (in idealist terms) in our leaders of today AND only asks of those spoken by Socrates in Plato’s Republic.

(4a) Explain the differences between Plato and Aristotle over the concepts of governance, the attributes of the polis, and the power of the state. Please give examples from the text. Explain in your own words (4b) how and what group should govern the masses? (4c) Does a diverse or united polity make a difference for the betterment of the state? (4d) Where should the power of the state reside in—society (the political community), economics, or politics and why?

Consider Aristotle’s best kind of government and the perfect state. (5a) First, define these. (5b) Second, if these hold true, are citizens responsible for the state or is it the state’s responsibility to ensure the welfare of its citizens? Why or why not? (5c) Finally, does good government require obedience and the goodness of the laws or as Diodotus stated ‘good administration’? Explain your answer fully.

(6a) Per Aquinas, what conditions must be met to conduct a just war? (6b) Can these conditions be met? WHY or WHY not? (6c) Should these conditions be standard application for the conduct of war, viewed as guidelines, or abolished, reformulated, or replaced? Explain your answer. (6d) Explain how it may be lawful to defend oneself per Aquinas? (6e) May these types of self-defense ‘rules’ apply to international law? In other words, may a state justify violent aggression on the grounds of self-defense in any circumstance (i.e., pre-emptive strike/invasion, reclamation of lost territory/population, or safeguarding resources from monopolization of other countries)?

(7a) Machiavelli — How does Machiavelli’s views compare with those of the ancient philosophes? (7b) Who was Machiavelli’s the Prince written to and WHY? (7c) In his treatise on how to maintain power, what did Machiavelli believe a prince should do to organize a new state? (7d) Should a prince abide by virtue or vice and WHY? (7e) And should the prince keep his word? WHY or WHY not? Finally, (7f) If you were to become a foreign policy adviser to anyone in power, would you choose Machiavelli’s approach OR not? WHY or WHY not?? RED denotes change.

C. SOURCES

When using examples or illustrations, please add parentheses and insert source. Example: Aristotle states that “liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost.” OR

Example: Although “liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy,” other scholars differ in their definition (Aristotle).

If you use a source outside of Thucydides, Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, or Aquinas, you MUST fully cite (author AND page) the source using MLA, APA, or Turabian (Chicago-Style) format. I prefer Turabian.
