– Diversify suppliers across countries:
Purchasing material inputs from only one supplier always faces the risk of input shortage or input price increases, especially when the supplier has market power. By importing materials from different foreign suppliers across countries, our company can minimize the risks of input price increases and the problem of shortage.

– Deeply study and understand the legal system of the foreign countries as well as cultural differences between the two countries. Have appropriate training our staffs.
– Analyze deliberately the economic and geographical conditions before choosing a foreign market to have appropriate proactive plans.
– Analyze the foreign competitors, their core competencies, competitive advantages and have strategic marketing plans to win in the foreign market.

A reflection paper is meant to assist you with aligning themes from the readings, classroom discussions and activities, and documentaries, and discussing how those main themes affect both your thinking and (future) practice.

Submit 6 one-page, single-spaced reflection papers, in Times New Roman font, with 1-inch margins all around. Reflection papers need to be submitted on CANVAS prior to class, on their due date.

You will need to integrate the main themes of the readings with their classroom experiences, and explain how both affect your thinking and practice.

Strengths and Weaknesses of an Evidence

Good observation that:

1). “However, it has a major weakness; it does not explain why some individuals at the latest stages of their development do not have decline cognitive abilities.” and

2) “Research shows that not all individuals who enter the elderly population age bracket develop mental health disorders. The model does not provide an adequate explanation of the difference.”

These are related to your original comment, “This leads to the reduction of the processing speed and the decline in the sensory capacity. As a result, the individual becomes prone to mental health problems.” for two main reasons

The first reason that there are at least two different forms of aging, healthy and unhealthy. If a person is healthy, we expect to see some cognitive decline, but nothing catastrophic or sudden. In healthy older adults, we see good cognitive processing and colloquially people say that an older person is “still sharp”. We see this in Supreme Court justices – still going strong in many important ways.

The second type of aging is unhealthy or even pathological. Unhealthy aging and pathological aging are similar concepts but unhealthy can just be due to unfortunate lifestyle choices whereas pathological aging may reflect a genetic or acquired disease process. In both cases, a person’s brain and body deteriorate in ways that we don’t see in healthy people so their cognition is affected by normal change over time plus the additional effects of poor health and perhaps even a pathology on top of both of those. Think of this last example as a “triple threat”. For a specific example, consider the aging of someone who is both an alcoholic and has a separate degenerative brain disorder like Parkinson’s disease. For someone in this situation, time, plus alcohol, plus the Parkinson’s disease all extract a toll on their brain, body, mind, lifestyle, social circles, and their psychology.

So the reason that many older people retain a high degree of their cognitive abilities and even a good amount of physical mobility is related to what sources of damage they face. If they only face time, and all of the rest of their life and body is “healthy” we see “normal” or “healthy'” aging.

However, if they are afflicted with diseases, mental disorders, bad habits, injury, assault, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, etc. those compound the damage to the brain and body, resulting in what can be shockingly swift and severe declines in cognition. Strokes (large or small) can do this and many people with dementia have dementia due to having many very small strokes and the resultant loss of brain tissue.

For a really excellent explanation of the different paths of healthy vs. unhealthy aging, check out the Harvard Study of Adult Development and news about it like this: https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2017/04/over-nearly-80-years-harvard-study-has-been-showing-how-to-live-a-healthy-and-happy-life/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

and the more important article http://www.asaging.org/blog/aging-well-thoughts-75-year-old-study (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

This latter one starts off by listing three genetic problems as being the top reasons for unhealthy aging (alcoholism, major depression, and dementia) so it is interesting to consider how much and when the unfolding of people’s genetics determines their later life cognitive health and capacity.

Please let me know your thoughts about the ideas above.

You also make the good observation “To fill the gap in the effort to explain the decline in cognitive abilities in some but not all individuals, the model should be modified in such a way that it specifies those individuals who have lower chances of developing mental health problems due to decline in cognitive abilities.”

For a challenge, what recent research on aging identifies those older adults who are most at risk for developing mental health problems due to cognitive decline? We probably don’t want to include Alzheimer’s disease in this topic because that is a brain disorder which affects both cognition and mental health while people also fear their cognitive decline – a double problem. Here is one example https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Mikko_Laakso/publication/11914576_Midlife_vascular_risk_factors_and_late-life_mild_cognitive_impairment_A_population-based_study/links/5a4b343da6fdcce1972178ce/Midlife-vascular-risk-factors-and-late-life-mild-cognitive-impairment-A-population-based-study.pdf (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and I found it with a google search for, “risk factors for cognitive decline and mental disorders”.

For this Analysis, you will explore an advertisement through the lens of the theory of semiotics

For this Analysis, you will explore an advertisement through the lens of the theory of semiotics.

You will turn in a written report of approximately three, double-spaced pages that includes a digitalized image of the print advertisement itself. (I will attach image).

Once you have your analysis artifact, dissect the image using the tenets of semiotics. Find important signs, and begin coming to terms with the signs’ connotations. As you find more and more important signs, you’ll begin to notice an overall theme (i.e., the myth).

Begin your written report with the full APA citation for the publication that contains your advertisement.

Next, create a bullet-point list of the signs you find most important for the ad. List the sign, then give some thoughts about the connotation/signification of the sign. Basically, you will list the signifiers as well as the signifieds.

Follow your bulleted list up with some reflections on your findings. We are, essentially, answering the “so what?” question here. In approximately two more pages, address the following questions:

What is the myth that your advertisement conveys?

How does this advertisement fit into the larger culture?

Does it challenge a popular ideology or maintain a dominant point of view?

What, if any, is the danger associated with the promotion of your found myth?

Discuss how analyzing media with semiotics could help you in your chosen discipline/field (interior design).

Add your print advertising image to your written report so it’s clearly featured in your submission.

Save your work as a Word file.

Analyze the book The Grapes of Wrath.

Identify and explain the main historical themes and arguments the author poses. Be sure to analyze depictions of class conflict and worker exploitation.

Be sure to introduce the book and author in the first or second sentence of the introduction. Your book review must be at least 2000 words in length. Do not use direct quotes. Paraphrase from the novel and cite the page humbers. The easiest way to cite sources is to use MLA parenthetical citations that includes the author’s last name and page number (Mayer 199). Every paragraph of your essay/analysis needs to have MLA citations from the novel except for the intro and the conclusion..
Your first paragraph must contain a series of causal arguments that you intend to historically prove in the text of your essay. Be sure to formally introduce the author and the book in the first couple of sentences of your introduction. Then identify the main themes of the book and explain why they are important. You need to tell the reader what caused what to happen, when and why. Never pose rhetorical questions in your essay. Rhetorical questions are cheap literary devices that make your writing style non-assertive and give the reader the impression that you are not in control of your essay or the material. Immediately give the reader your overall causal argument, and then, in succeeding sentences of your first paragraph list supporting arguments in chronological order. The supporting arguments should be chronological in order and build on each other.
The topic sentences of your paragraphs must do more than simply describe what the paragraph is about, they must also state why the paragraph is important to the overall argument of your essay. In other words, the topic sentence summarizes the paragraph, but also links it back to one of the supporting arguments that you listed in your introductory paragraph. You must have dates or at least periodize in almost every paragraph. Paragraphs should be one-third to one-half page in length. Finally, your essay must have a conclusion that restates your original argument in light of the data and facts that were discussed in the text of your essay. A paragraph is at least four sentences long.

In what way(s) is the information processed in the human cognitive system? Does it make effective use of the mind based on your audiences specifications (i.e. children, adults, etc.)? (Are cognitive processing elements/theories included?).

Describe the program Instagram(do not exceed half page) and discuss it in terms of the following points listed below (within the parentheses are some tips to assist you in understanding the assignment). You may use outside sources, but the majority of the material must come from the additional files I provide.

REQUIRED CONTENT TO ANSWER:

–In what way(s) is the information processed in the human cognitive system? Does it make effective use of the mind based on your audiences specifications (i.e. children, adults, etc.)? (Are cognitive processing elements/theories included?).

–What is the view of the world? (Is a view of the world included for this particular artifact? Ex: X-Men comic books “view of the world” may be a place where “good” fights “evil” in a physical and mental way in the hopes achieving the understanding of everyone’s differences).

–How does the artifact cultivate knowledge, thinking, social skills, etc…? What knowledge and skills are contained in the content and do you think they will transfer to other contexts?

–How would you revise the artifact? Could you use it in an educational manner or other creative ways to send out its message(s)?
