History of Design Machu Picchu 3 Essays

This is for 3 essays about architecture, landscape and other design disciplines for a humanities writing class. Not really about architecture but about critical thinking.

An annotated bibliography was already completed and I provided the sources below for writing about Machu Picchu. Additional or other sources can be used.

Due: 10.21.18
The 1,500-word essay presents me with an observation; in other words, a ‘DESCRIPTION’… it is a description of the project in detail. That means that it discusses its program, the site, the spatial qualities, its construction and materials, and any other item of importance which has a physical presence. It also talks about who built it and its intended use. In a few words: this is a description… this is about the physical presence of an object in the world and the way it is used.

Due: 11.25.18
The 2,000-word paper on the other hand, is a ‘FORMAL ANALYSIS’ of the work’s visible attributes – the same ones described in 1,500-word essay. In this paper you will look at forms and their relationships in space, and you will write about how these elements work together and the kind of reactions they will trigger in the users. You will also talk about how the project serves its patron’s needs and how it relates to its context (e.g. the built environment, the natural environment, its cultural context, etc.). In a few words: this is a ‘formal’ analysis… this is an interpretation of the effects that the individual aspects of the project have upon its visitor and its context.

Due: 12.08.18
The 2,500-word essay is a deeper and more ‘COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS’ that develops the previous analysis further to include a cultural, social, and political to expand its more refined, philosophical and poetic meanings. For instance, how are the project’s forms and spaces meaningful; how are they expressions of their own time and what is their cultural import? In a few words: this is a ‘cultural’ analysis… it is an overarching argument in which you describe the effect of the project as whole and its full impact on the world and the people of its time.

Therefore: 1. Description (Already done); 2. Formal Analysis; and, 3. Comprehensive Analysis. Three (03) distinct and separate papers on the same topic.

If you chose to expand your sources below, only use ‘academic’ sources; no Wikipedia or unpublished internet references, please – don’t use tourist guides, coffee–table books, encyclopedic dictionaries, and a plethora of other non–academic references. All sources must be printed (books, book chapters or journal articles).

How a Bill Becomes a Law

As you have discovered through this course, nurses are influential members of the community and the political system. Therefore, for the purposes of this assignment you will identify a problem or concern in your community, organization, etc. that has the capacity to be legislated. You will conduct research and state a proposal. Through the legislative process, your proposal for the problem or concern may influence an idea for change into a law.
First, refer to the “How a Bill Becomes a Law” media.
http://lc.gcumedia.com/zwebassets/courseMaterialPages/nrs440v_how-a-bill-becomes-a-law-v2.1.php/.
Then, view the “Bill to Law Process” to watch the scenario.
After viewing the scenario, refer to the “Legislative Assignment.” You will need to save the document first in order to use it.
Submit the assignment to the instructor. You also reserve the right to submit your completed proposal to the respective government official. However, this is optional. If you select to submit your proposal as a part of the legislative process, refer to “Find Your Representative” or research the contact information on your own.
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
You are not required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

Octavia Butler’s Kindred takes a fresh look at the slave narrative, which is one of the first forms of African-American literature. In doing so, she revises the historical trauma associated with slavery and makes it relevant again over 150 years later. Indeed, the novel is not simply an historical novel, but a reevaluation of history and the imbalance of power that exists in any dynamic between unequal partnerships.

Argument Synthesis Essay (1200 words minimum)
FORMAT: Typed and double-spaced in MLA format.

OBJECTIVE: A synthesis is a written discussion that draws on two or more sources in which you make explicit the relationships that you inferred among separate sources. However, before you’re in a position to draw relationships between sources, you must first summarize those sources. The main aim of argument synthesis essay, as its name obviously implies, is to argue a certain topic. Your job in writing an argument synthesis is to argue/persuade that a particular and debatable claim is true.

*This essay will include support from secondary sources in the form of TWO scholarly articles that you locate within the library’s databases.

TOPIC: Octavia Butler’s Kindred takes a fresh look at the slave narrative, which is one of the first forms of African-American literature. In doing so, she revises the historical trauma associated with slavery and makes it relevant again over 150 years later. Indeed, the novel is not simply an historical novel, but a reevaluation of history and the imbalance of power that exists in any dynamic between unequal partnerships.

Your essay should be structured thusly:
Two part title: ____broad__:____specific ____author and title____
1. Introduction- begin with broad summative sentence that includes author and title. The rest of the intro should provide specific context to lead the reader to your thesis. Two- part thesis must be structured in such a way as to include “as a means to” between the first part (what the author does) and the second part (how he does it).
2. Summary of article 1 (with specific awareness to your topic)
3. Summary of article 2 (with specific awareness to your topic)
4-6. Critical analysis of novel with specific awareness to your topic with specific support
from the novel and content from your secondary sources. You should strive for a
sustained analysis about a singular topic—be specific, not broad—drill down for
meaning. ***This section should be broken into three paragraphs that consist of
individual Big Mac quote sandwiches.
7. Conclusion

WRITING TASKS: As you outline and draft your essay, keep the following in mind:
• The thesis should be a complete sentence that establishes your topic in clear, unambiguous language that includes “as a means to” between the X and Y parts.
• As you’ll discover, summarizing is hard work- you are condensing many pages of text to a few paragraphs. Take a look at WIT 7-8.
• A key part of the assignment is supporting your analysis; you must not articulate a personal position, opinion, judgment, belief/value, etc. Rather, you will present your analysis of the novel by supporting your discussion with specific evidence pulled from the text, and a detailed analysis of relevant portions of the text.
• Utilize literary present tense.
• Your conclusion should expand on your evaluation and explain the significance of your topic.
• The essay should use proper Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting – this means one-inch margins on all sides and twelve point Times New Roman font. If you are unsure of format, consult the many online MLA sources available.
• While mistakes are inevitable, I expect all drafts to be thoroughly proofread.

ASSESSMENT: Grades will be on the following rubric. Each of the domains is described in terms of specific indicator of achievement level. Additionally, proper quoting, paraphrasing, summary, proper MLA format, heading, in-text citations and work cited page are required and will also be considered as part of the grade.

Nutrition research paper

The purpose of this assignment is to synthesize and apply the knowledge you gained in class into a well-written research paper. For this assignment, you will conduct research and write a paper containing three parts:

  1. Part I: Analyze diet
  2. Part II: Evaluate how the patient’s diet affects:
    • The person’s health (anatomy)
    • The progression of the illness (pathophysiology)
    • Common medications associated with the disease
  3. Part III: Create patient SMART goals and an evidence-based plan of care (patient education)

Begin by selecting one of the patient profiles. Click here to see patient profiles. You will use the patient profile to complete Parts I–III of the assignment.

Click here for the assignment details.

In addition to the assignment specifics, your paper should:

  • Be 4–5 pages, not including the title and reference pages.
  • Source(s) should be integrated into the paragraphs. Use in-text citations pointing to evidence in the literature and supporting your ideas.
  • Incorporate a minimum of two peer-reviewed sources into your paper.
  • Use current APA format to style your paper and to cite your sources. Follow the list structure of the sample paper for the section on calculations. See Sample Paper here.
  • Include a title page and a reference page listing the sources you used. Be sure to plan enough time for proofreading and editing.

First, visit the website for National Review Online. This is a leading conservative magazine and articles are written from various points on the conservative spectrum.

Thread: First, visit the website for National Review Online. This is a leading conservative magazine and articles are written from various points on the conservative spectrum. Occasionally, it may disagree with a point on the lecture outline of liberal and conservative views. Select an article to review. If there are no suitable articles at the National Review Magazine website, you may select an article from Real Clear Politics. Alternatively, you may look at copies of the magazine at a bookstore or college library and choose an article that way. Select an article that is at least 800 words.

Second, review the Reading & Study concepts on conservatism and liberalism. You must refer to the Reading & Study materials to receive full credit.

Third, identify the key themes of the article. Compare these with what you have learned about conservatism and liberalism. What conservative ideas do you find expressed in the article? Why do you call them conservative? Are any liberal points present in the article? If so, what are they? Why do you call them liberal?

Your thread must consist of 2 paragraphs. In the first paragraph, you must summarize the content of the article and identify the thesis. In the second paragraph, you must give the analysis, explaining why the article should be considered conservative or liberal based on the presentations.

Remember: Do not simply summarize the article. Instead, analyze its main ideas. Demonstrate that you can apply the conceptual material provided in the presentation outline and your textbook to actual writings you might encounter outside of this course.

Select an article that is long enough to give you sufficient points upon which to write. Include the author and title of the article you choose and cite the source.

Should gun license age be raised to 21?

WRITE CONCLUSION OFF OF THIS:

Gun control is a major conflict in the US. People questioning whether 21 is too young or too old to be the legal age to carry a weapon. In our opinion 21 is an ideal age. At 21 a person would be out of high school for an average of 3-5 years. At 21 we feel more mature than we did at 18. 18 year olds are still children.
At 18 years of age you just barely get your rights to be considered an adult. You can finally buy cigarettes, finally buy a lottery ticket, finally get a piercing or tattoo. These small things are some of the first rights into becoming an adult. You are finally allowed to do some things on your own! But to be allowed to carry a gun? I just don’t think it’s the appropriate time. Right out of school your mindset is not a fully matured level. Being 18 is still being a child. Most children that age have not experienced the real world or even what it’s like to live on their own. Children have different kids of tempers and can be easily triggered into making mistakes. A mistake by putting a gun in the wrong persons hands can unfortunately be fatal. A teenager can go through a traumatic learning experience and not know how to deal with the situation. Alone and tempered a child can easily turn to the gun for revenge and violence. Being able to carry a weapon is a thrill. A thrill that can attract the wrong people. A weak minded person who is not thinking correctly can ruin their lives and/or other people’s lives at the pull of a trigger.
In recent years, gun control has been the topic for many. With all the recent school shootings it really raises the question on if we need stronger gun control laws to prohibit young adults from purchasing fire arms. In many arguments, including our own, we believe there should be stronger gun control laws that prohibit young adults under the age of 21 to buy weapons. It’s been proven with every school shooting that young adults just aren’t ready to have the right to buy weapons, 18 year olds are still far too young to even have access to fire arms, for their brains are still underdeveloped. Young adults are still too emotional and lack better judgement on this situation. Most school shooters are still around the age of eighteen, so this can tell you a lot on why we believe the age to buy firearms should be 21. As stated earlier 18 year olds are far too emotional and are not fully developed in the brains category to fully purchase firearms. Next 18 year olds are barely out of highschool, they shouldn’t even need to carry a firearm with them, or even need to buy them for protection. What 18 year old needs to have a gun for protection, that’s what police are for.
Extensive background checks also need to be made. Time and time again guns are being sold to questionable characters, we don’t know their true intentions when they proceed to purchase a weapon. Background checks should be made in order to help keep our safety, for far too long have weapons been sold for the wrong intentions. Background checks should be completely necessary, we need to know if the person who purchased the gun doesn’t have a violent, depressive, or psychopathic history. With this background check we can finally have more gun control policies in place that can better help us avoid dangerous scenarios like school or public shootings, we can finally lessen the possibility of the worst possible outcome. With a gun control policy like this in place, we can finally take another step forward in protecting citizens from threats from the inside.

PORTFOLIO

Your portfolio is due in a few weeks. This assignment should include:

1) Your summary of at least one thing you learned from each chapter that can positively impact your leadership style (50 points)
2) A copy/scan of your leadership logo (50 points). We talked about your brand in class a few weeks ago. This brand is anything or symbol that brand you as a good leader. It could be a drawing, picture and/or symbol.
Use your creative skills (because leaders are creative) to develop a logo around your brand. Have fun with this; there is no right or wrong answer, but this is a serious attempt of visually documenting who you are.
3) One idea that you plan to implement immediately at work along with how you plan to implement that idea. What resources will you need and how will you obtain those resources. (50 points)

Completing the Learning Activity

Read the grading rubric for the project. Use the grading rubric while completing the project to ensure all requirements are met that will lead to the highest possible grade.
Third person writing is required. Third person means that there are no words such as “I, me, my, we, or us” (first person writing), nor is there use of “you or your” (second person writing). If uncertain how to write in the third person, view this link: http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/first-second-and-third-person.
Contractions are not used in business writing, so do not use them.
Paraphrase and do not use direct quotation marks. Paraphrase means you do not use more than four consecutive words from a source document, but put a passage from a source document into your own words and attribute the passage to the source document. Not using direct quotation marks means that there should be no passages with quotation marks and instead the source material is paraphrased as stated above.
Provide the page or paragraph number when using in-text citations. Note that a reference within a reference list cannot exist without an associated in-text citation and vice versa.
You may only use the course material from the classroom. You may not use books or any resource from the Internet.

Discuss which (5) strategies for making a meeting productive you find most significant or important and explain why.
