compose an argumentative essay of between 500 and 875 words (2 to 3 pages) with a strong concluding paragraph. This essay should be well organized and should exhibit proper spelling and punctuation.

Choose a topic that you feel passionate about, and use it as the basis of an argumentative/persuasive essay. Based on the feedback you received in Discussion Forum 7, begin your essay with an engaging introduction that leads to a strong argumentative thesis statement.

Start by acknowledging and explaining points of view that may conflict with yours in order to build credibility and trust with your audience. In addition, state the limits of your argument. Support your thesis using sound, credible evidence. Use a balance of facts and opinions from a wide range of sources and clearly state and explain each piece of evidence. Your conclusion should effectively summarize the main argument and reinforce your thesis.

Remember to present a strong thesis statement in your introduction with relevant supporting details throughout the body. Include transitions to connect ideas in a logical format. End with a comprehensive conclusion restating the thesis.
Review the online writing sites as needed.
Before submitting your work, please proofread it for correct spelling, grammar, complete sentences and paragraphs, and clarity of expression.

Causal Analysis Essay

Assignment: Explain and argue the causes of a situation (an event, a phenomenon, or a trend) that interests you. Narrow your topic enough to treat it in some detail. When seeking causes, you must decide carefully between remote and immediate causes.

Purpose: The two main purposes for a Causal Analysis academic essay are:

  • To prove a point
  • To argue against a widely accepted belief

Topic: For this assignment, you have complete control of the topic of your essay, but your topic should not be general like abortion, gun control, the death penalty, global warming, etc. These are all weak topics unless you organize and focus them correctly for this paper. Here are some possible topics to consider, but you can choose your own:

What are the current top three causes of unemployment in Florida?

Why cheating in academics is on the rise at all levels of education.

What is causing the increase in college costs?

What is causing the average American couple to have children later in life than previous generations?

What are the immediate causes holding back the current 20-30 something generations from achieving the same levels of financial stability as their parents?

The cause of the spilt in favor of a particular political party (Republicans, Democratic etc.) in American politics.

Why students are choosing non-college based, trade careers in the current economy?

Research: In addition to simply arguing the causes for a topic, you will need to back-up your assertions with researched evidence. You must research your topic to find evidence that helps you argue your cause. Let me be clear—this part of the assignment is non-negotiable. Papers without research or citations will earn a failing grade. We will have time in the library for access to resources to help you find evidence to make your arguments. You will cite your sources and quotes in MLA citation format. Consequently, you must have a works cited page at the end of your paper, see page 168 of The Little Seagull Handbook.

Your paper should:

Be 5-8 pages long.
Argue the causes of your topic, and use researched evidence (including direct quotes) to support your claims

Remember, 3 is the magic number—assertion, evidence, importance.
Be typed according to MLA Guidelines—consult page 161of The Little Seagull Handbook.

Be proofread for basic errors and typos.
You need at least 3 sources from credible print or library database sources ONLY. Simple google searches or random internet pages will not be accepted.

Be sure to select values from all four of the levels: individual, interpersonal, organizational, and societal (be sure to incorporate the feedback from your instructor from your previous draft).
Identify how your personal model of leadership helps you create a sense of meaning and purpose for yourself, others, organizations, and society.
Identify the impact of your contributions to self, others, organizations, and society.

philosophy paper

In this paper you are to take a stand on the debate between utilitarianism and absolutism (=deontological theories) and to provide the best justification for your position that you can. Please write the paper according to the following rough outline: (i) Explain the utilitarian account of what it is for an act to be right or wrong. (You need not discuss all versions of this view. Rather, just formulate what seems to you the strongest form of utilitarianism.) (ii) With reference to specific examples, either hypothetical or from your own experience, show why it might be thought that utilitarianism gives an inaccurate account of morality. (iii) Now formulate the absolutist or deontological conception of morality as it is discussed in the work of Nagel or O’Neill. (iv) With reference to cases involving warfare, explain why the absolutist or deontological view holds that there are certain restrictions on the conduct of war that cannot be overridden no matter the good consequences of doing so. (In elaborating your position you may discuss cases in addition to those of warfare.) (v) Finally, explain whether you adopt a utilitarian or absolutist position in ethics, giving the best justification for your position that you can. Consider a possible objection to your position that a critic might raise, and explain how you would rebut that objection. (vi) Finally, close your paper with a brief summary of what you have achieved therein.
