Argumentative essay on Technology Dependency

Argumentative Research Introduction

What are you truly curious about?
Research starts with a genuine desire to investigate and to understand some problem or issue that intrigues you, that matters to you. This desire will pull you through the hard work research involves. But you can make the work easier if you treat it like a process, one that you divide into steps or phases. During the process, you may experience many eureka moments of discovery.
Writing a research paper is more like following a spiral than a straight line. As you find sources in the library and on the Internet, you may form a rough outline or start writing brief notes. Later, after finding information that relates to your purpose and your arguments, you can start adding to your notes…Keep the spiral idea in mind… as you do your research and write your paper (Palmer, Discovering Arguments).

In an essay of 5-7 double-spaced pages, choose a clear and arguable position.
-use the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos to reach your audience.
– trustworthy tone” is important because it shows readers you are fair-minded and honest
-Essentially, you are choosing a side on an issue and explaining to the reader WHY you believe your position is correct based upon your evidence. This is a persuasive paper.

Be sure to include the necessary background information (context) so that readers can understand the topic. Provide sound reasons to back up your position. Give “convincing evidence” to back up your reasons, including “facts, statistics, expert testimony, anecdotal evidence, case studies, textual evidence” (169). The evidence you use must include a minimum of four academic sources—dating back to 2000 and no earlier—in a thoughtful way. Your essay must also include one counterargument (the opposite view of your position), as well as your rebuttal (response) to this opposing viewpoint.
Follow MLA formatting standards, including the use of signal phrases to identify new sources, proper in-text citations, and Works Cited pages.

The Alverez Family

Ray, age 80, and his wife Jean, age 75, have been married for over 50 years. He suffered a stroke several years ago. Jean takes of Ray at home, with the help of two of their four children (Marge, 30 years old and Miranda, 32 years old) and occasional assistance from a home health agency.

Ray

Ray had always been the family breadwinner; working at the same factory for 30 years and retiring at age 65. Ray is difficult to care for at home. He is not only heavy, but his left arm and leg are partially paralyzed, making mobility difficult. He becomes verbally abusive when immobility, incontinence, noisy grandchildren, and other irritations frustrate him. He has adamantly refused to consider going to a nursing home or other care center. Ray had abused alcohol and was alternately verbally abusive or morose when he had too much to drink. He had stopped drinking when he was 55 and attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings regularly for several years.

Jean

Jean had stayed home and had raised four children. Jean provides care for Ray although it takes a toll on her physical and psychological well-being. She would feel extremely guilty about having to send Ray to a nursing home or any other facility. Her own mother cared for her father when he became frail and infirm.

Marge

Ray and Jean’s youngest child, Marge, has struggled with addiction to cocaine and other drugs. Currently, she is serving a jail term for possession of cocaine. Because her addiction has interfered with her parenting abilities, Jean and Ray have been the primary caregivers for Marge’s son Jason, now a teenager, since he was a small child. Jason has been skipping school and he is uncommunicative. Recently, the police arrested him and two friends after they tried to steal some CD’s from a local music store.

Miranda

Miranda, another daughter, is concerned that Jean can no longer meet the needs of her husband and grandson. Jean is not attending to her own physical and mental health. Miranda would like to spend more time helping her parents, but her work as an office manager for a small construction company keeps her busy. Miranda’s employers are generally not willing to give her the time off needed to support her parents and as a small company, do not offer Family and Medical Leave. When Miranda does try to help her parents with household chores or transportation to medical appointments, she finds herself becoming angry and impatient with her father, who was often verbally abusive to her and her siblings when she was growing up.

Miranda has contacted you, a social worker in a family service agency, to talk about ways to “get help” for her parents. You need to assess the Ray and Jean’s situation so that you will have enough information that will lead to a plan that can help the family through this life stage transition.

bibliography and LV

Here is a brief description of those two components of the class and how they are related. Of course, there are also detailed guidelines for each assignment separately. Over the years, I have noticed quite a few people have the same questions and confusion about those two assignments, so read carefully  (And ask as many questions as you have after you read this.)

The final project for this class is the Learning Vignette. The best way to explain the connection between the biblio and the LV is to tell you about the LV first, although, chronologically you will complete the biblio first.

Learning Vignettes – This is a 15 mins skit/act out of your understanding of the material you have learned. Since this is an entirely online course you will (sadly) not be able to act out the skit – therefore, this assignment will be basically writing the script for the skit. In this group project, you will do what is known as closing the gap between theory and practice. Remember that in your LV group (which I will form on the basis of the grade levels and topics you have expressed preferences towards in your survey), you CANNOT have two people with the same biblio topic. That is why, I decided to start with this early, so you can all finalize your topics within your groups. Once you all know what you will be doing your biblios on, you will be expected to share your knowledge with your groupmates and teach them the strategies you have learned from your research on your topic.

For your LVs, I will provide you with an instruction sheet including grade level, topic, specific activity and understanding goals. Your task is to incorporate all the strategies you have learned about for your biblio topic into the skit. Remember, the goal for this assignment is to portray how well you understand the principles of educational psychology and how to implement those in the classroom. Knowing definitions for this project will not be enough. I give you the what, you show me the how. The idea is to get to see (and do it yourself) how those concepts LOOK like in reality. As you write your script, I encourage you to use the “Comments” option on MS Word to provide comments throughout. You can identify what concepts you are covering. That said, make sure that in the actual script, you do not actually tell us. Meaning, when we teach, you don’t say things like: “Ok, now we will spend a little time to work on your identity development by exploring who we really are.” This would be considering you “telling” us about your topic (Identity development), rather than showing us how a teacher would promote identity development in the classroom. Does that make sense?

Annotated Bibliography – For this assignment you will be asked to come up with a topic of you are interest that is in the realm of Educational Psychology. You will then look for 3 articles from a list of journals I will provide you with. Once you know your topic, you can use variety of strategies to find those articles in the specified journals. If you are having hard time finding articles, I encourage you to seek help of the librarians and you can always email me and I will gladly help you. The reason why I will give you a specific list of journals is that the articles you need for your assignment need to be practice-oriented, sources that will be more “how to” oriented, not as much as theory or research-oriented. The detailed guidelines for the biblio are already posted on Blackboard. By the end of your research and write up of the Annotated Bibliography you will be considered somewhat of an expert on your topic in your LV group and you should have a nice list of strategies that can be applied in the classroom.

Feel confused? Ok, here is what you need to do step-by-step
1) Complete the survey and wait until I put you in your LV group
2) Come up with biblio topic – once in your LV group, make sure to check out what others’ topics are. No 2 people within a group can have the same topic.
3) Share it with your LV team-mates on Blackboard
4) Complete your draft and eventually your final Biblio
5) Start writing your script. Blackboard doesn’t offer really good tool to do so. I encourage you to use Google Docs. It is a really good tool in which all of you can work on the script at the same time. They have really revamped the program and it is pretty awesome now!
6) Once skit is done, transfer it to a proper MS Word file. Add the Comments throughout indicating what concepts are covered where.
7) Write your introduction: In it, you need to include all LV members and their Biblio topics. You need to also give us the settings and any possible props you would have used if you were to act the skit out in a classroom.
8) Submit it on Bb by the deadline
9) Submit your peer evaluations (if you are having concerns about any of your LV team-mates even before the submission of peer-evaluations, please email me!)
10) Evaluate other LV groups’ scripts and submit your evaluations.

In order to ensure everyone participates in the group project, at the end of it, everyone will be asked to complete a peer-assessment sheet for each of your LV team-mates. While this is a group project, everyone will receive an individual grade. Your grade will be effected by:
1) LV group grade
2) How well your biblio topic is represented in the LV
3) Your evaluation of other groups’ LVs
4) How well you worked with your peers (based on the peer-assessments)

Classical Music Concert Review

The class is about the music in the age of Haydn and Mozart. You will prepare a short review about a concert. As for the details, please refer to the attached assignment guideline and rubric. Below is the official website of the concert I attended.

https://www.tafelmusik.org/concert-calendar/concert/mozart-40

Below are the three examples of public concert reviews of the Tafelmusik performance I attended last week.

https://www.thestar.com/entertainment/music/review/2018/09/21/tafelmusiks-captivates-with-mozart-season-opener.html
Mozart 40, Tafelmusik 40
https://www.torontoconcertreviews.ca/september-22nd-2018-mozart-40—tafelmusik-baroque-orchestra—koerner-hall—royal-conservatory-of-music.html

Please make sure that you read the assignment guideline carefully and follow them. I have also attached the program book I received on the concert day for your reference. Since the songs they played are very famous, I am sure you can easily find them on music streaming apps or websites. You can listen these and write you what feel about them. As long as they are general (not too specific), it should be okay. Also, when I was in the concert, there was nothing particular or peculiar happened that day.

Recovery Approach to Mental Health – Develop a Self Care Plan & Write a Reflective Essay

Task – Recovery Approach to Mental Health (Nursing)
Objective on Assessment Task:
The goal of this task is to demonstrate your understanding of what it might be like to embark on a Recovery/Self-Care journey and to increase your capacity as a nurse to effectively support people in Recovery. The goal is: ‘reduce relying on alcohol when experiencing anxiety’.
The task has two parts – Part A and Part B:
PART A (500 words +/-10%): Develop a Recovery/Self-Care using a ‘self-care’ model with the goal to ‘reduce relying on alcohol when experiencing anxiety (refer below)’. To create the plan use an example such as plans – WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan), Recovery Plans or Wellness Plans (these can be found on the internet. The self-care plan does not need to be in essay form. It should include references to support/guide your care plan. The plan should be (+/- 10%) 500 words.
The plan msut clearly identify:
• What area of your life you want to work on – ‘Reduce relying on alcohol when experiencing anxiety’
• What your goal(s) are – ‘Find other alternatives to manage anxiety, limit drinks to a maximum of 2 in one sitting’
• How you propose achieving your goal(s) – ‘insert fictitious goal’
• What supports you have in place and the role they will play – ‘explain the role of family/friends or therapeutic supporters (such as a counsellor, personal trainer, nutritionist, etc)’
• What challenges you may face and possible ways of addressing these – ‘identify and explain the challenges & how you address these’
• Supporting literature – ‘identify literature to support the goal’
When developing the plan, remember we are modelling a Recovery type journey to experience and learn first-hand what might help and hinder a person on a Recovery journey. Like a Recovery plan it is important that your plan focuses on your strengths and that your journey, whilst utilising supports, is self-directed. Your plan can include images, drawings, pictures and words.
PART B (1500 words +/-10%): : Write a reflective/argumentative Essay on your experience on the ‘self-care’ on reducing ‘reduce relying on alcohol when experiencing anxiety’. Write in first person about your ‘fictitious’ journey as an area in your life where you would like to make positive change, focusing on ‘self-care’ and using a ‘Recovery model’. The essay should be (+/- 10%) 1500 words. It should include references to support/guide your journey.
The essay must clearly reflective & provide an argument re: ‘Self-Care’:
• The need for effective self-care for consumers – why is this important for journey of recovery?
• The need for effective self-care for nurses – why is this important working in this professions?
• What was your experience like receiving support?
• How is your journey progressing and why?
• What factors helped you (internal and external)?
• What factors hindered you (internal and external)? How have you dealt with obstacles?
• How your journey, experiences and learnings might change or inform how you work with people in your future nursing practice
• How your self-care journey, experiences and learnings relate to Recovery

You may consider:
• Your understanding of the role of plans and strategies from a Recovery-orientated perspective. What is important in doing the plans?
• How might this be similar/different to the biomedical model approach?
• What informed your goals & strategies?
• How do you think your experience might compare/contrast to that of consumers (based upon your understanding through the course and research)?
• How will this experience influence your work with consumers and how you dp planning?

Experience of receiving support:
• What was your experience of support (ie where you able to choose who you wanted?0 were they listening to your needs and working ‘with’ you? Were they available how and when you required? Did they ‘support’ you or try ‘direct’ you? Whose needs were being met (yours or theirs)? Did you experience some of the Recovery principles (ie empathy, connection, belief, autonomy etc)? Did you have any other observations? Was this helpful for you? What was unhelpful for you? How did your experience compare/constrast to that of consumers – what was similar/different?
