Define humanism and discuss changes over time in Greece and Rome. Give examples from both culture (art and literature) and political events to illuminate.

Type three to four paragraphs each question. Single spaced 12 point font, 1” margins. You must use one or two supporting points per question from your textbook. However, the focus is from your class notes. DO NOT use the Internet under any circumstances. Cite in MLA format (Smith, 279). List the textbook in a works cited section at the end.

Note: Avoid contractions (can’t). Use the third person (he, not I or you). Avoid overgeneralizing (say, Athenian citizens, not people or Greeks for example).

Group One
Pick ONE of these two questions:

1. Define humanism and discuss changes over time in Greece and Rome. Give examples from both culture (art and literature) and political events to illuminate.

2. Define citizenship in Greece and Rome and discuss changes over time. Explain what the changes were and how they happened. Give examples to illuminate.

Group Two
Pick ONE of these questions:

1. Compare the political change from city states into Hellenistic kingdoms in Greece with the switch from republic to empire in Rome. Do not narrate the history, but explain what changed in the political systems and why.

2. Compare the strategies of Alexander the Great and Cleopatra. Why were they so different? How much did personality weigh versus political/military necessity?

Sociotechnical System Role in Organizations

The objective of this discussion is to develop an understanding of the role sociotechnical systems play in an organization’s ability to respond to existing and emerging technological, organizational, and environmental issues.
Prior to starting the discussion, carefully read the case study “Nothing Special on the Ground: A Night at the Airport”, and make notes about the events and your initial thoughts. Then share your thoughts in the class discussion and compare ideas with your classmates.
In this discussion, you’ll be working together to analyze the problem and develop solutions (and determining how the solutions can be implemented and assessed).
Remember not to jump to assumptions about the solutions before you’ve properly analyzed the case. Case studies, by their nature, provide you with incomplete information. Be sure to be explicit about any assumptions you are making. The steps in the Decision Making Framework (additional details may be found in the Content Guides) should help you see what you need to explore.

I. Context
II. Identification of relevant problems
III. Identification of Options or Alternatives
IV. Decision Recommendations
V. Implementation Tactics
VI. Assessment Criteria for Success or Failure

Write a memo (approximately 2–3 pages) to your supervisor explaining your findings and your recommendations for where improvements are needed to increase financial health.

Taking the role of a financial analyst within the company, prepare an executive dashboard (performance report) on a large, publicly traded company of your choice (e.g., Cisco, Walmart, IBM, Apple, etc.) by computing and comparing its ratios against the 11 industry average ratios listed in Problem 4-23 on page 129 of the text.

Use the provided Financial Ratio Excel Spreadsheet to show the computed financial ratios for your chosen company. Prepare your performance report to show calculations for the 11 ratios listed on page 129, as well as a comparison of your computed ratios with the listed industry averages. The comparisons, including a list of your computations in a table, should be added as an appendix to the memo described below and submitted as a separate Excel spreadsheet.
Write a memo (approximately 2–3 pages) to your supervisor explaining your findings and your recommendations for where improvements are needed to increase financial health. Be sure to Include the following:
Areas within the company that are both above and below industry standards
An explanation of the limitations of using ratio analysis
The qualitative factors that play a role in improving the company’s financial health
In the memo, suggest some specific ways in which the company can plan to improve below industry average ratio performance over time. Suggest annual targets over the next three years to catch up with or surpass industry averages. Explain why your recommendations should be effective.

Read Case study Below
Maria is a 38-year-old Puerto Rican female from Miami, Florida. Maria has three children, Tamra who is a 20-year-old old attending college, Devin who is a 16-year-old male, and Sara who is a 14-year-old female. Maria has been married to Juan, 40 who is also Puerto Rican and resides in Miami as well. Maria has recently discovered that Juan has been having another affair. After many marriage counseling sessions in previous years, Maria cannot take the lying and deceit much longer. Maria is doing a disservice for herself and her children by staying in the unfaithful marriage. Maria has filed for divorce from Juan and has agreed to announce the decision to the children during Tamra’s summer break from college. All three children have no idea of Juan’s past affairs because Maria has kept them secret in order to prevent humility of both her husband, but of her children. Maria did not want the children to grow up in a broken home, so instead took the shame and hid it from the children. Maria lived a somewhat happy life being able to stay at home and raise the children while Juan worked. Maria also deals with depression from the affairs and the codependence she has grown with Juan. After sitting down with all three children during Tamar’s college break and explaining the decision of divorce, Sarah stormed out of the house in tears, Devin has shut down and will not speak to anyone, and Tamara seems unamused. Tamara turns to Maria and whispered to her that “I have always known he was up to no good”. Maria has scheduled an appointment for the family to see a counselor during this stressful time in order to better cope with the decision.
