ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND CULTURE
The format of this case differs from the previous three modules and resembles more closely the format of assignments you will see in many of your courses going forward. This is not to say that you should abandon what you have learned about the analytical process of alternating between the abstract and the concrete, the reflective and the active, but this paper will not follow the format of a section on concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. Each of these aspects of analysis should be present, but integrated into the paper as a whole, rather than broken out into distinct sections.
The topic of this case is organizational design. To complete this assignment, we will begin as before, and you should identify an organization you know very well (I’m in the Army so if you can base this on military / Army). Then conduct your analysis by addressing the topics below. Do not line up the questions and address them one at a time as in a short-answer test, but rather integrate them into a single coherent commentary and analysis of the organization. A critical part of successful completion of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your ability to employ the concepts introduced in the background material in describing and evaluating the effectiveness of the organizational design. To do this, you will need to draw on the concepts from at least three readings/videos. This paper should be 4-6 pages long.

2. Describe how work is divided (specialization and departmentalization), coordinated (chain of command and span of control), and controlled (centralization and formalization). Is the structure more mechanistic or organic?
3. Describe the informal structure of the organization. How does work actually get done?
4. How does the organization deal with the differentiation-integration issue?
5. Having completed this analysis, identify three strengths and three weaknesses of the organizational design.
6. If you could suggest one major improvement to the organizational design, what would it be?

CRM has a variety of meanings and roles in differing organizations.

Prepare an analysis in which you examine the role of customer relationship management. The paper must include the following:

Define customer relationship management.
Explain the possible misinterpretations of what CRM is.
Explain the various roles of CRM in an organization.
Explain why and how CRM benefits an organization.

In December of 2017, President Trump signed the National Security Strategy. That document was a culmination of years of work by the National Security Staff – in its attempt to outline and guide the national security, diplomatic, homeland defense, Intelligence, and military activities within the US Government.

In Pillar 3, “Preserve Peace Through Strength” – there is a strategic level discussion of “cyberspace” on page 31.

I would like you to critically think-through the National Security Strategy, and more specifically, the areas hat discuss cyberspace.

Imagine you are a National Security Staff Subject Matter Expert, specifically, a staffer on the cyberspace team within the NSS.

Write a 1,400-1,750 word memorandum addressed to the National In December of 2017, President Trump signed the National Security Advisor to the President providing guidance on areas within the National Security Strategy where we may have “missed the mark.”

Include the following in your memo:

— Identify areas in the National Security Strategy which are lacking, inaccurate, or unfocused

— Discuss what changes you would make to the areas concerning cyberspace, cyber-terrorism, etc.

–Critique the focus and content, assess and evaluate by levying outside sources, and provide senior-level guidance and recommendations.

The total length of your two responses should be between 4-5 pages – double-spaced 12-point font.

Additional requirements for the essay:

1) This is a 400-level course, I expect the essay to reflect the work of a skilled, reflective, substantive research essay.
2) Please use no-less-than 4 outside sources to support your recommendations.
3) You will be rewarded for exploring concepts and ideas that are not readily discussed in open source literature.

One of the philosophies mentioned in your text includes the strategy of Plan, Do, Check, and Act. Please keep this philosophy in mind when considering the information required below.

1. Discuss the premise of TQ. Then, design a TQ initiative for a company of your choosing, outlining steps that will provide internal and external support for your initiative.

2. Outline a plan for a team meeting with your managers, and elaborate how together you will disseminate this plan to the entire company.

3. Evaluate the potential impact of your meeting and the launching of your TQ plan, including two (2) strengths and two (2) weaknesses of the plan.

Instructions:
Draw on specific examples (please reference) from the readings and write a coherent, clear argument.
It’s a relatively short essay with just 3 sources to cite from, so essentially just around 200-210 words/ reading, leaving room for an introduction + conclusion of 70 words/ each, give or take.
750 word count means within 10%, so either 75 words under or over 🙂
Some readings are lengthy but ideally you’d only need to just pick 1/2 key point(s) per reading that you find engaging and elaborate on them.
