RECENT DISASTER EVENTS

 

This is a collaborative group presentation presented by NURS 431 students to incorporate Evidence Based Practices, new concepts, and integrate old concepts with current professional nursing practices related to Disaster Management in nursing.

Select a recent disaster event within the last 5 years. This event can be domestic (within the US) or international. Group presentation must be at least 15-20 slide, PowerPoint presentation to include:

1. Introduction
2. Describe the disaster event
3. Economic impact of the disaster
4. Psychological impact among people including children
5. What resources are available for children?
6. Communication system used to coordinate information sharing
7. Identify the gaps of the communication flow and identify corrected plan of actions
8. How resources are/were coordinated and managed throughout the response operations?
9. Impact of the hospitals
10. Describe how the hospitals managed the response efforts
11. Interruptions of hospital services-how did hospital handle the service interruptions?
12. If this is an international event, compare and contrast the response efforts (e.g. communication system, coordination with other agencies, resources allocation etc).
13. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the emergency management system and identify corrected plan of actions
14. Lessons learned from the disaster
15. Discuss the relevance of the disaster to nursing practice and the significance in the nursing profession’s body of knowledge
16. Detailed speaker notes

This assignment requires at least five references. Keep your presentation to the point and brief.

All slides that require citations are clearly indicated and a reference for each is on the last slide(s) of references.

Group presentation must be completed in 20 minutes.

In light of the ***recent situation and to address the issue of Academic Integrity you are required to write a single spaced two page essay and address the following:

3. How will you apply the principle of personal integrity to your future practice as a nurse?

What Academic Integrity Requires of Me (as the Professor) in This Area

With regard to exams, the principles of academic integrity require that I:

• do my best during class time to prepare you for the exams,
• be available during office hours or at arranged times to work with you individually to help you get ready for the exams,
• develop exam questions that will be a meaningful test not only of the course content, but also of your ability to express and defend intelligent judgments about that content,
• carefully monitor the exam so that honest students will not be disadvantaged by other students who might choose to cheat if given the opportunity, and

What Academic Integrity Requires of You in This Area

With regard to exams, the principles of academic integrity require you to:

• come to class having done your best to prepare for the exam, including seeking my help if you need it,
• make full use of the time available to give the best answers you can,
• accept your limitations and not try to get around them by using cheat sheets, copying, or seeking help from another student,
• not giving help to other students, or making it easy for them to copy off of you.

***Recent situation: The instructor accidentally posted the exam # 1 on the Internet together with the PowerPoint presentation for that class, with ½ an hour before the exam.  Out of all the students that saw the exam posted, no one brought it to the instructor attention. The instructor found out 8 hours later about her mistake. As a consequence of the students’ academic dishonesty/integrity, the instructor has cancelled the exam, and on the following week she re-tests the students.

You are a professor of education at Florida State University. You have been hired by a gubernatorial candidate to write a research report on the common core standards and high stakes testing that has been going on in Florida for some time now, despite opposition from teachers and parents. You are to research the subject exploring the causes and effects of this trend in education. Show how events in the past have developed into the present testing situation and determine if this is in the best interest of the students. The candidate will use your findings to create his platform on education in the state and may be open to changing this model. The link below provides a good overview of this issue.

Goal: Conduct/construct an experiential evaluation/assessment of the business model of your organization (or one with which you are closely familiar) using the business model canvas and related text. Introduction: Managers who want to improve the effectiveness of their business model and organization, as well as to increase their own ability to manage, use diagnostics/assessments to determine the reality of business effectiveness in comparison to what they originally envisioned. Good feedback contributes to the development of plans to improve business/organizational effectiveness and management performance. Instructions: Write a 8 page properly formatted APA paper (including a title page and references page, but no abstract) that evaluates/assesses the overall effectiveness of the business model used by your organization. This is the third of three assignments that draws from your association with your organization. The previous two “canvas” assignments flow into this one. Identify one or more of the building blocks from the business model canvas where modification should be recommended( The 2 assignments are attached as a reference). Be careful to avoid bias in determining the issue/problem identified by using the canvas. Do not merely critique, but contribute to your organization’s overall success. This paper should be the culmination of the overall work you have done with the business model canvas so that all the pieces go together. Your paper should include: • Your business model canvas – Model Part 1 attached(KW 2) • Identification of theoretical/behavioral trends that you observe in the business model and organization, Model Part 2 attached (KW 5) summarize this, do not merely cut and paste. • Discussion of appropriate theory, metaphors, and frames with which to describe your business model in operation, as well as to identify areas needing improvement and how to get there. Attached • Use of the Osterwalder/Pigneur text to evaluate and diagnose your organization’s business model, as well as an integration of the course materials into your writing and consideration. • Recommendations for improvements identified using the canvas, theories, and assessment tools used. What are the expected outcomes. • Use eight scholarly sources besides our textbook (especially case studies) to undergird your assertions from peer-reviewed literature. The paper must have at least eight additional scholarly sources in addition to the course textbook below. No abstract is necessary, but a title page and references page should be included. Paper should be written in third person, even though you are writing about an organization that you are familiar with. • Discuss the technical aspects of your topic in general terms.

At least one reference must be a peer‐reviewed article from a profession journal. Do not use Wikipedia or encyclopedia as they are not considered a reliable academic source to use.
