Grammar has always been at the fore in ELT but less so in mainstream British society. However, we now see a renaissance in education and public exams. Schools, parents, editors and others seldom have the background to consider grammar with confidence. This task will develop your burgeoning familiarity with the structures of English, the terminology and concepts. Task – Online grammar resource (c1500 words) In consultation with your tutor, select a narrow aspect of English grammar -Conjunctions -and research it thoroughly in order to write a comprehensive account as if for an online grammar resource. This topic will be unique to you and not covered by an assessment for any other unit, and will feature your own examples to illustrate your claims and observations. The key objectives are to: Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the form, function and use of a further area of grammar Construct an accurate and cogent account using your own examples Provide evidence of your insights into the structure of English, analytical skills and your wider reading. Advice – to do well in this assignment… Research your topic thoroughly, including books aimed at different audiences, ensuring your account adequately covers the form, function and use in writing and in speech. Discuss your ideas with your peers extensively and your tutor as needs. Use the Harvard system of referencing, as necessary.
