INTRODUCTION:
Your organisation is planning on targeting professional services works under the NEC4 form of contract as part of their corporate strategic business planning. It is projected that approximately 60% of future work is likely to be secured under the NEC form of contract, with the largest proportion of the services offered being under the option A (activity schedule) contract.

BRIEF
In your capacity as business development manager for the quantity surveying discipline of the organisation, you are required to devise and deliver a strategic plan for quantity surveying services over the next five years.
It is anticipated that you will be offering services from stage 2 of the RIBA plan stage of work 2013, you should consider the range of tasks that clients will expect you to perform consistent with the other stages in the plan stage of work.
A designer has recently contacted your organisation with the view of seeking a fee bid for an office development that the client has a £18m budget for. This is an opportunity to put in place the necessary provisions for securing such a commission and learning from the experiences.
To enable you to meet the needs of the proposed project and those in your strategic briefing, you will undertake the following tasks.
(a) Prepare a fee bid for the range of services expected from a quantity surveying practice from stage 2 of the RIBA plan stage of work until post completion of the project.
(b) Prepare an internal briefing document detailing your contractual responsibilities and obligations under the NEC Option A form of contract.
(c) Assess the risk allocation under the Option A contract, identifying the contractual risks, and where it exists, any tortious liability.
(d) Forecast how your performance is potentially to be evaluated by the Client during the post project evaluation.
(e) Prepare an internal strategic report to assist in future business planning for undertaking works using the NEC4 PSC for all main options.
Your report to the managing director and should contain no more than 3,000 words
(excluding contents page, references, appendices and references to case law within the body
of the report).
