CONTENT REQUIREMENTS:

Your annotated bibliography will be composed of the following components and organized accordingly:

(1) A title that is reflective of your topic and research question(s)
(2) An introduction that explains why you are interested in your selected research topic and provides your research question and any related sub-questions. In addition, your introduction will explain why you selected the sources that you selected. If, for example, you decided to include information sources that are broader or narrower in focus that your research question, you should be able to explain why you made that decision.
(3) 12 correctly formatted bibliographical entries (following MLA 8th edition) listed alphabetically by the first author’s last name and grouped according to the types provided below:
1. Group 1: Books. Find 2 books and/or chapters from books. Books may come from both GALILEO
(eBooks are fine) or SCTC’s library.
2. Group 2: Periodicals. Find 7 magazine, trade publication, or journal articles. Newsletter or
newspaper articles may be acceptable for certain topics. Periodicals must be found in GALILEO
and must have a PDF version available for review.
3. Group 3: Other Source Material. Find 3 other sources of information. Information sources in this
category include websites, videos, blog posts, etc.
NOTE: For all groups, you may not use encyclopedia entries, book reviews, research starters, websites such as Wikipedia, GradeSaver, eNotes, Shmoop, and the like. In addition, you may not use any information source that does not have a stated author. For articles and books, your source must have page numbers. Abstracts alone do not count as information sources.
(4) 12 corresponding annotations listed immediately below each bibliographical citation. Each annotation must include each of the following components provided in the following order:
~1. An overall summary of the arguments or information presented in the information source;
~2. An explanation of how the information source could be useful if you were writing a research
essay;
~3. At least one direct quotation from the information source;
~4. A correctly formatted in-text citation for each direct quotation (include the author and page
number in parentheses after the quotation—remember, the period follows the closing
parenthesis).
~(5) A reflective, evaluative conclusion that provides an overall explanation of what you learned about your topic and explains what you learned about the research process as a result of this assignment.

FORMATTING AND CONTENT CONCERNS:

Your finished annotated bibliography will be approximately 10-15 pages in length and will be formatted as follows:
(1) Follow MLA 8th edition (2016 update) for bibliographical entries and overall document format.
(2) Do not include a separate cover page; simply include your name, my name, the course, and the date as you would for any other essay.
(3) Double-space the entire document; however, do not skip extra lines between any section.
(4) Use 12 point, times new roman
(5) Group each bibliographical citation and corresponding annotation by group
(6) Use a hanging indent for each bibliographical citation
(7) Label each citation using the following structure: Group 1, Source 1; Group 1, Source 2; Group 1, Source 3; Group 2, Source 4; Group 2, Source 5 and so on until you have all 12 citations labeled
(8) Label each annotation (see example below) and each quotation (see example below)
