The chapter reflections are to include any ideas or concepts that were new to you, any areas where you agree or disagreewith the author, concepts that you are struggling with, how the chapter answers your BIG QUESTION, as well as how you will use the information in the book. You will be writing a reflection.

Chapter 7 Reflection
Big Question: Why is Early Learning important for children and what can I do to help young children learn?
This chapter examines health, safety and overall well-being of young children, which includes teaching young children about safety and wellness. This unit also talks about the transitions, beginnings and ending to a child ‘s day, which is an important part of a young child’s life in school. The transition from home to school is a complex process for any child and his or her family. Children may experience lack of familiar people and predictable routines. Families may have mixed feelings about their child moving on a new level of independence and wonder if they can feel comfortable in the unfamiliar place or with strange teachers. Early childhood professionals can offer important support to families and children as they are preparing for transitions. Transitions will be most successful when families and professionals discuss ideas, plan activities, and decide about action steps together. Communication and collaboration with families and between professionals is important for successful transitions. Connect on a personal level to understand each family’s unique emotions and situations. Ask families what they anticipate, look forward to, and worry about. Organize time for families and children to meet new teachers and visit classrooms.( Make the flow) WRITE IN ANOTHER WORDS, GEAMMAR SHOULD BE CORRECT, GOOD SENTENCE SRUCTURE, BE LOGICAL
I agree effective measure for preventing the spread of diseases in early childhood programs is frequent and thorough hand washing. Maintaining good hygiene in child care centers is essential. With so many young children in proximity, it’s important to stop the risk of cross-infection between children, and adults. All childcare centers should be able to demonstrate good hygiene standards to minimize the spread of infection, which is an essential factor for families choosing care facilities for their child. Likewise, the families of children in care can contribute to good practices by teaching their children simple hygiene rules at home and supporting their children to continue these practices while in care. .( Make the flow) WRITE IN ANOTHER WORDS, GEAMMAR SHOULD BE CORRECT, GOOD SENTENCE SRUCTURE, BE LOGICAL
I noticed that in my daughter’s preschool teachers always ask children to wash their hands when they first enter the classroom as well as teachers also wash their hands to minimize the risk of infection. Teachers encourage children wash their hand all over from finger tips to wrists, rinse thoroughly to remove all soap and germs, use a paper towel to turn off the tap, pat dry hands with a paper towel. At home I regularly remind my daughter to wash her hand after using the toilet, before and after meals, and after playing or visiting outside. I truly believe that if families practice good hygiene, it greatly assists the child care center as it will minimize the chance of carrying and transferring infectious diseases. I am struggling to understand how dramatic play, and problem-solving strategies helps children to deal with the fear of violence.
The food list commonly linked to childhood choking are completely new to me. I didn’t know that before spoonful of peanut butter, marshmallows, rice cakes, popcorn, and raw carrots are unsafe food for children under age four. From now I will serve shredded carrots or cooked carrots until they are mushy to infants and toddler. I will always prefer to cut the grapes in half before I give them to young child. If the grapes have seeds, I will make sure to remove them as well. The size and shape of popcorn make it a very easy food to choke on. So, I will avoid giving it to young children. A large dollop of peanut butter can be hard for kids to swallow all at once. So, I will serve it to spread a thin layer on crackers or bread with something to drink. I will follow healthy routines in my classroom. I will wash my hand and encourage children to wash their hand upon arrival at the childcare program. I will teach children to wash their hand by demonstrating washing my hand. For example, I will wet my hands with clean, running water, use soap and lather up for about 20 seconds. I will make sure to clean in between fingers, under finger nails, around wrist and both the palms and back of hands. Rinse and dry well with a clean towel. The most important step I won’t forget that encourage children turn off the faucet with a paper towel when they are done. The faucet is considered dirty at all times. If we touch it with clean hands, we will be re- contaminated. Teaching children about hand washing early in life is important. Hand washing prevents the spread of diseases which make children sick. When kids learn early in life, hand washing is more likely to become a habit they will practice for the rest of their lives. This chapter doesn’t address first part of my big question regarding why is Early Learning important for children but this chapter does answer the second part of my big question what can I do to help young children. To help young children learn the environment and the activities for first days should be simple to allow children to focus on a few new experiences at a time.
I will use let’s move! Child care goals in my classroom. Focus on the five Let’s Move! Child Care goals to help kids grow up healthy: increase physical activity, limit screen time, encourage healthy eating, offer healthy beverages, and support infant feeding.
