This essay discusses the contributions of Leonardo Da Vinci and how he used his artistic skills to become the world’s most famous engineer. He’s been called the greatest painter of all time and his Mona Lisa is the most admired work of art in the world. Yet Leonardo da Vinci was more than an artist. He was also a draughtsman, designer and engineer, producing thousands of mechanical drawings investigating and addressing the challenges of anatomy, flight, manufacturing and war. His artistic talents enabled him to record his mechanical ideas with enough clarity for working models to be created. His fascination for knowledge and his ability to bring his ideas to life shows that he is the epitome of an engineer.
