Female Leader Assignment
For this assignment, you will write a summary of a current woman leader in politics. You will focus on the National government and can choose any powerful female leader you would like, but I would recommend choosing a prime minister, president, or a cabinet member (ministers in parliamentary systems, secretaries in presidential systems).
While this is a summary of the individual, you should still follow typical essay format: an introduction with a thesis (your argument), body, and conclusion. Your summary should include: (1) a summary of the female leader’s upbringing, (2) the leader’s rise to power and the context under which it occurred, and (3) policy decisions and/or important events during the leader’s tenure in office.
The paper should use class sources to examine/explain each of the key points above. How does their rise, upbringing, policy decisions, etc. confirm/disconfirm theories/research we have discussed? Hint: this should be the argument in your thesis.
For example, if you find that the individual made decisions for women, such as voting yes for a domestic violence policy, this may suggest that women in office do substantively represent women!
