When grading your writing, I will evaluate the following:
an introduction with a thesis at the end of it. In an essay analyzing a film or a piece of literature, a good introductory approach is to give some background about the story or film being analyzed.
an obvious connection between the chosen topic, the essay’s thesis, and the body paragraphs’ topic sentences
at least three fully-developed body paragraphs. Each topic sentence should be supported with at least three specific references to the film that are then analyzed and explained in terms of how they support the TS for the paragraph.
unified and coherent body paragraphs in which all the sentences tie back to the paragraph’s TS and the sentences flow from one to the other. Repeated key words and concepts and transitional phrases as well as a closing or wrap up sentence should be used to increase unity and coherence.
a conclusion that wraps up the essay and emphasizes the significance of the topic to your readers. Students can be a little opinionated or preachy here and discuss the relevance of what they have discussed in the body paragraphs to readers in general
the use of correct punctuation and grammar
