Use textbook – Aboriginal peoples in Canada, james s. Froderes, Rene r. Gadacz edition 9
What impact did each stage of the colonization process
produce?
(Refer to the Dropbox for the due date.)
By applying what you learned from chapters one and two, write a
minimum of 6 pages
(1500 word) essay on the above subject.
The essay should be formatted in either MLA
or APA style, and it should include the following:
An introduction that states the thesis (e.g. briefly stating what you’re going to discuss in
this essay)
. Hint: refer to Questions for Further Discussion
and Summary sections, listed at the end of each chapter. You can apply the main ideas and points that you take from such questions and summaries
in developing your thesis statement.
Note: Essays that do not include a thesis statement will automatically lose 5 points.
In the paragraphs that follow,
provide an “analysis” of the main factors that contributed
to the First Nations people’s colonization. In this step make sure to provide
a summary
of the main points of the two chapters, by applying sufficient quotations as examples, before reflecting on the events. Remember that the majority of the essay should consist
of a) a summary of the main points, and b) the relationship b/w various events that led
to the First Nations colonization
.
To achieve this objective, try to refer fairly equally to
the course content rather than over
–
referencing selected parts and excluding other
parts.
Hint: Refer to Key Term sections, which are listed at th
e end of each chapter.
Have you applied or made reference to most or all of these key terms in the body of
your essay?
In the final paragraph(s), a statement of how
the review of the two chapters
enhances
your understanding of
Aboriginal peoples
.
Hint: You can borrow ideas from the
Introduction and Summary parts at the beginning and end of each chapter.
The following will be considered in the grading of the assignment:
Accurate
“
reflection
”
of the main points
of the article
. Remember: you should
move beyond summarizing to critically analysing/evaluating the relationship b/w
facts.
You should also make sure to present your analysis in an essay format and
through providing organized paragraphs.
Appropriate academic tone (e.g. third
–
person voice in
the summary section)
Sufficient quotations and example from the article
. Make sure to apply the
information equally and from across the course content rather than over
–
emphasizing some parts while skipping other parts.
Accurate and thorough use of APA or
MLA formatting
