Purpose: To demonstrate understanding of leadership concepts through research and contextual application of those concepts; further develop critical thinking skills; further develop scholarly research skills; demonstration of competency in college-level written communication and APA Style.
Choose a leader you admire. It may be an historical, contemporary, or fictional leader. (We will discuss potential leaders and I will give approval to your choice in one of our weekly discussion boards.) Research and write your own case examining the leadership qualities, styles, and challenges of the leader you choose. Use the title: What makes a leader ___: Name of Leader (substituting the appropriate word for the blank and using the name of the leader you selected).
Use selections from the leader’s writings, if available, and other scholarly sources (including relevant news stories from reputable sources) that can help you to create a profile of the leader as well as a sense of why you see the leader as an example of the word or words that fill in the blank. Have a strong central thesis that you support with examples from the leader’s life and work. If using a fictional leader, assume the fictional narrative is the leader’s life/work.
Each case must be 3-5 pages of content
title page + 3-5 pages of content + reference page = 5-7 total pages
You must cite academic sources from the course readings or other scholarly literature to provide support and/or definitions and explanations of the topics within your case. It will not be sufficient to simply write from your own perspective and opinion without support from the literature. You may include sources from the course readings. Additional citations from other research and course readings are expected, but there is not a maximum number expected.
Avoid over quoting your research sources. No quotes over 40 words and do not present a simple string of quotes within your paragraphs. Paraphrase and synthesize.
All written assignments should be carefully proofed for grammar, spelling, sentence structure, typographical errors, and punctuation prior to submission.
