Essay Assignment #1 Assignment-

David Simon, Director of “The Wire” stated in the video “The House I Live In” that the war against drugs has been the probelm, not the drugs itself.  He is emphasizing the intense controversy around the implimentation of laws and policies to tackle the drug problem in America. One such example of the war on drugs has been mandatory minimum sentencing.  What is mandatory minimum sentencing?  What are at least five effects of mandatory minimum sentencing on communities accross America?  Why did we originally switch to this model to counteract the drug emidemic?

Please answer the above question in a 3 page minimum essay.  You must use quotes and examples from the video. We will be watching the video in class, however if you want to get ahead on this essay, “The House I Live In” is available on in the week 7 and 8 folder. It is also available on Netflix.  You must include citations and references in the APA style when quoting from outside sources.  Standard margins of one inch and size 12 font are required.
