Regarding the movie “Fatal Attraction”

A. Discuss your reaction to the diagnosis/diagnoses provided in the movie. How do they meet the DSM-5 criteria? Do your own assessment of the character. Are there any other diagnoses that are not discussed, but may be appropriate? Substantiate your claim and document your findings.

B. Discuss:
a) The characteristics/symptoms of these disorders
b) What is the prevalence & the populations in which it is most commonly seen?

C. What is your understanding of the movie title given the person’s disorder?

D. Using the historical and familial background provided and your readings, discuss all the possible etiological dynamics of his/her disorder(s). You may have information missing to fully answer this question. Please try your best and fill in the gaps with information you can predict or imagine was the case.

E. How was the person’s treatment or intended treatment influenced by his/her gender, age, socio-economic, professional and ethnic background? If professional treatment was not provided in the film, consider how his/her gender, age, socio-economic, professional and ethnic background influenced their treatment by people/society.

F. What treatment approaches or recommendations would you offer if the main character came to see you in your out-patient mental health clinic. What role do you see for the individual or family during treatment? What are your short and long-term goals and objectives for the main character? Their prognosis?
