Assignment Instructions
The United States is one of the wealthiest and technologically advanced civilizations, yet it fails to rank among
any of the top countries on any indicator of children’s health and well-being (Berk, 2014).
Develop a PowerPoint presentation with audio comparing a given social indicator or issue occurring in the US and
another country.
This assignment has 4 parts:
1) selecting a social indicator and international culture,
2) finding research about the indicator as it occurs in the international culture,
3) creating a PowerPoint presentation of your research,
4) adding audio narration to each slide to present the material.
To begin, please visit the Child Trends website located at: www.childtrends.org.
• Once there, position your cursor over the “Databank” tab at the top of the page, and then click on the
“Indicators by Lifestage” tab, then click on “Infants and Young Children” and/or “Adolescents” labels on
the righthand-side. By doing so, you will be presented with many recent articles pertinent to the health
and development of youth.
• Choose and review any article related to child or adolescent mental health, psychology, or development
(e.g., poverty, developmental delays) and/or one that directly impacts youth’s psychological well-being,
such as obesity.
• Then find at least 2 scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles and/or sources from governmental
institutions or professional associations about that topic as it occurs in another culture so you can
compare and contrast the topic in the US and another country (e.g., obesity among US and Chinese
youth).
• Next, create a PowerPoint presentation in which you:
o Describe the social indicator as it occurs in each culture
o Compare and contrast the research (i.e. how do you understand the similarities and/or
differences in the research findings between cultures)
o Highlight specific information about diversity and multicultural considerations mentioned in the
research (e.g., if the issue occurs more so in girls than boys, among individuals of lower SES,
among specific ethnic group(s), etc.)
o Discuss the implications of the research for prevention and/or intervention.

• Then, using the Audio function in PowerPoint (located in the Insert menu at the top of the screen> then
Audio> then Record Audio>then Save Recording), provide audio recordings on/for each slide to orally
present the information to the viewer. Please test your microphone and ability to record, and also play
each slide’s recording to ensure it is audible to the listener.

• Then, Save Recording
• Test again to ensure the audio recording was saved
