ASSIGNMENT: Research, outline, and deliver an 6-8 minute problem-solving persuasive speech on a policy. According to Lucas a persuasive speech is designed to change or reinforce the audience’s beliefs or actions. The persuasive speech is more challenging than the informative speech because it requires more research and preparation time as well as more speaking time. You must effectively analyze your audience and use persuasive tools to adapt your message to them.
This assignment consists of three parts:
(1) You will hand in a Topic Homework Assignment.
(2) Research, write and organize an outline planning for the use of visual aids.
Topic Selection Requirements:
Must be a persuasive topic on a policy appropriate to our class and the assignment.
Preparation Outline Requirements
Follow the Preliminary Outline for the Informative Speech. ( I attached a sample outline in the additional files)
State the specific purpose of the speech in a single infinitive phrase. Label the specific
purpose.
5. State the central idea of the speech in a complete sentence. Label the central idea.
6. Label the introduction, body, and conclusion.
7. Label each part of the introduction and the conclusion. Label the main points, sub-points
and support.
8. Use a consistent pattern of symbolization and indentation.
9. Write the main points and sub points in complete, declarative, simple sentences.
10. Write and label connectives (transitions, internal summaries, internal previews) for the
introduction/body and
body/conclusion.
11. Include/attach a reference page with at least 10 high quality sources. Two of the sources
must be less than two years old.
12. Cite 7 sources in the outline.
Follow this example when citing sources:
a. “The 2008 World Almanac reports that…”
b. According to the January 2007 issue of Time magazine, “include quote here….”
c. Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown is quoted in yesterday’s S.F. Chronicle as
