For this presentation, you will look at current hospitality leaders’ best practices in human resources.

Individual Assignment – Presentation – 15% – Tuesday Class

Students will be required to complete an individual presentation and an individual paper at the end of the term. Students will be required to provide a paper written APA style format.

You are a hospitality human resources executive in a new hospitality global entrant. Your main responsibility is to oversee the strategic planning as well as the hiring, training and development of all employees. You will need to create the company’s goals and objectives. This includes the development of the mission statement for the organization and the purpose of the hospitality brand.

Every employee speaks English at various levels, however, there will be communication issues as many employees are from different parts of the world. You need to plan for the long-term growth of the brand and this means that employees will be working in different locations around the world for this new hospitality company entrant.

For this presentation, you will look at current hospitality leaders’ best practices in human resources. You are presenting your plan to the executive committee team at the annual strategic planning meeting. This means that there needs to be buy-in from the executive team and the leaders of the organization have to have confidence in your leadership. I would encourage you to look at Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in the accommodation sector. In addition, you may want to look at Tim Horton’s and Cactus Club in the food and beverage sector as they attempt to grow their global presence in the industry.

You need to address the following items in your presentation:

· Visa and Permit Issues

· Relocation Allowances and housing

· Language and Cultural training – Be specific

· Spousal employment concerns

· Health/medical/insurance issues

· Compensation and incentives

· Education for the children

You will need to provide a plan and this means that you will need to review the Strategy and Human Resources Planning. You will need to address the following:

1. Mission, Vision and Values

a. Identify purpose and scope and long term direction

2. External Analysis

a. Assess opportunities and threats

b. Conduct an environmental scanning (legal, political and environmental)

c. Analyze the industry and competitors (Fairmont, Marriott, Four Seasons, Tim Horton’s, Starbucks)

3. Internal Analysis

a. Analyze your firms strengths and weakness keeping in mind that you are a new entrant

b. Analyze and present your firm’s core competencies

c. Analyze your firms resources: people, process and systems

4. Strategy Formulation

a. Develop a corporate strategy for your new company

b. Develop a business strategy

5. Strategy Implementation

a. Design structure, systems and so on

b. Allocate resources

6. Evaluation

a. Evaluate benchmarking efforts with the leaders (Again, you can use Fairmont, Four Seasons and Marriott)

Be creative, enthusiastic and use the knowledge in the course to prepare your plan.

You are responsible for providing a minimum of five (5) slides of content and no more than (7)You need to provide with a minimum of five (5) content points in the notes section of your slides. This will keep you organized and on time.

Please provide a reference page with a list of references obtained.

This course is called Advanced Human Resources and you will need to sell your idea and your plan.
