Presidential Decision Making

Objective: Students will:
1. understand the complexity of presidential decision-making
2. demonstrate personal and ethical responsibility

Assignment: Wartime Decision
You are the president of a fictional country that is engaged in a war with another country. The country has a weapons factory from which it produces bombs and ammunitions that it is using to fight your country. The factory is located in a populated area.
As the president, you have to decide on a course of action. In no more than three double-spaced pages:
1) List the choices that confront you. (10 points)
2) State the consequences of each choice (20 points)
3) What moral or ethical questions are involved in this matter? (10 points)
4) Find and provide a real-world example of a country that has confronted this dilemma either in the past or present. (10 points)
Please do not include extraneous matters, such as military tactics. Those are not necessary to answer these questions.
