Regional One Health: Outpatient Physicians Perception of Mobile MD Patient Portal

In order for your project to be approved, you must complete this contract and submit to the course director Dr. Reynolds for approval.  This must be approved by Dr. Reynolds prior to registering for MHIM 613.

The Applied Research Project is the culminating event of the MHIIM program.  It must be substantial in that it expresses what the student has learned during the MHIIM program and will add to the body of knowledge in HIIM practice and research.  Please use this document as a template and formulate an initial proposal by answering the following questions.  Submit to Dr. Reynolds for review, assignment of a faculty advisor and project approval. 

Remember students are required to be registered for courses the term of graduation.  If the  MHIIM 613 project is the last class taken and the project is incomplete at the end of the term, then the student has to register for at least one credit every term until the project is complete.

  3. Thesis/ Research questions: this should include what you plan to learn from the study and must be written in a measurable format that relates to the research design in #5.
  4. Introduction & Background. (Briefly state how the problem evolved, state why you would be conducting this study)
  5. Research design: (study methodology, population, data collection procedures, data analysis) This section needs to include the questionnaire that will be used to collect data.
  6. Explain in detail the strategy that will be followed in conducting and completing the Project.

It is imperative that guidance and approval of the course director and graduate faculty at each step. Example of strategy usually used:

  • Develop and gain approval for Project
  • Develop cover letter and survey (if appropriate)
  • Gain IRB approval from UT IRB (if necessary)
  • Develop and refine the project paper and submit
  • Submit final project at least two weeks prior to end of semester.
