Student Loan Forgiveness

TEACHERS Directions: write a 3 FULL page essay (4th page should be bibliography page), select either Student Loan Forgiveness or Technology in the Classroom. Then select either Robert Applebaum’s “Debate on Student Loan Dept Doesn’t Go Far Enough” on pages 422-424 in Current Issues and Enduring Questions if you feel that student loans should be forgiven or select Justin Wolfers’s “Forgive Student Loans? Worst Idea Ever” on pages 425-426 if you are against the idea of student loan forgiveness. If you are writing about Technology in the Classroom instead, select either Sig Behrens’s “The Education- Technology Revolution is Coming” on pages 427-429 of Current Issues and Enduring Questions if you favor the use of technology in the classroom or Ruth Starkman’s “Cyberslacking in Shanghai: What My Students Taught Me” if you are against it. Then in addition to selecting one of these essays, pick one additional source at least (you need two, similar to essay #1).

THEN FOLLOW THIS FORMAT
**TEACHER NEEDS TO SEE AN ORGANIZED OUTLINE**

1) Introduce the topic and form an opinion on this topic (thesis statement) where you agree with one of the authors.

2) Put forward points or premises (three to five) which support your point of view and use the author’s essay to cite from.

3) Take the opposing point of view and cite from it where needed, explaining why the other author disagrees with your point of view (counterpoints to the points that you have made) but where you think that there is a weakness in the points and overall opinion of the other author. You are encouraged to use the opposite point of view essay in Current Issues and Enduring Questions to raise the counterpoints.

4) Form a conclusion.
5) Include a bibliography with at least TWO SOURCES. from Current Issues and Enduring Questions BOOK pages 422-424 or 425-426
You can have more if you wish, but only two is necessary in the works cited page.

*IMPORTANT*
GRADING RUBRIC: 1) Clear thesis; 2) Clear supporting details; 3) Clear counterpoints; 4) Citations or quotes from the two sources from the Current Issues and Enduring Questions 11th edition book; 5) The bibliography page (worth 5 points so don’t forget it!!!); and 6) Grammar and mechanics.
