Death and Dying interviews: Students will be conducting a series of four interviews to obtaining a deeper understanding of the diverse views of the death and dying process. The interviews need to be conducted with four individuals: one individual 41-64, and one individual 65 and older. It is best if these interviews occur with individuals who are not immediate family members. The interviews need to be based on the following topics:
• Views of the dying process
• Where their learned about death and dying
• What does their culture/religion state about the dying process
• What do they believe happens after one dies
• What would they do if they learned they had 1 month to live
• If they could, how would they plan their funeral
• How do they want to be remembered
Additionally, the students need to give an assessment of the strengths that the person could draw upon when faced with a death and dying situation, as well as potential problems they could experience in the face of a death and dying situation. This assessment must demonstrate your insight into the unique needs and attributes of each person interviewed and the different theories that could be applied to the individual’s response. In this paper, consider how development stage may impact views of death. The paper MUST include empirical citations (a minimum of 4 different sources) supporting your analysis of each interview. The citations must come from peer reviewed journals, books, or legitimate internet sources. And, the paper must contain theories or frameworks in which you are using to base your assessment.
Students then need to analyze their own dying process based on the same questions they asked of the people they interviewed. What is similar or different in your own answers, beliefs, life experiences, etc. than the people you interviewed? What theories could be used to explain your own views of death and dying? (5pages )
