Theoretical views of addiction

In this paper, you will describe your own theoretical views of addictions based upon your textbook readings and classroom discussions. It is important to begin to integrate your faith and your personal spiritual worldview (Christian) into your own theoretical model of addictions counseling. You have two options for your paper’s focus:

Individual Theory: You will develop your own individual theory of why people become addicted. You should be able to describe how people become addicted in the broad sense of the paper. You should be able to present an origin or cause, logical order, progression, and predicted outcome of persons and /or families in your theory. You will also present how or what methods will be incorporated to assist in relapse prevention and move the client toward recovery. Besides covering the “how and what methods,” remember to integrate a well-reasoned justification.

You should also point out the strengths and possible weaknesses of your theory. Finally, you will articulate a rational argument why you believe the theory is sound. You should also offer critical reviews of why your theory is better than one or two other theories in the textbook.
*OR*
Accepted Theory: You will write a paper on a theory or model from the text that you believe accepts or embraces the ideas closest to your beliefs. You will write about why this theory is more accurate or superior to other theories or models in the textbook. Include the strengths of this theory and critically analyze the weakness or flaws in the other theories.

Papers are to be a minimum of ten pages of typed double-spaced content, excluding the cover sheet. The paper must adhere to standards set forth in the APA (American Psychological Association) Style Manual.

In addition to the textbook for this course, you must have at least four additional sources in addition to any websites used.
